New to forum; awaiting arrival my 1st P08
 

Hi.
Although not yet in possesion of a Luger I thought it would be nice to introduce myself here on the forum.

My name is Peet, I'm from The Netherlands (aka Holland) ;) and into guns for 6 years now.
Last week I bought a BYF41 (Mauser) P08 and I'm waiting now, very impatient, for the paperwork to be proccesed. Hope to be able to pick up the gun on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The P08 is not with 'matching numbers' but that's okay with me; I wanted a shooter. And shoot it does; tried it at the gunstore and I was impressed by it's accuracy. :thumbup:

As you can see in my signature; I like the earlier designs of guns and cars.

Have been reading her on the forum for the last 2 weeks or so; I'm impressed with the knowledge concerning Lugers available here. Just 'discovered' the FAQ at the top of this New Collectors Forum; a lot more info to read. Great.

Don's think I can be much of a help solving Luger-problems but hope to post something now and then.

I'm also a newbie and contribute very little to the discussions other than to ask stupid questions (which lead to other "aha" moments). :)

I've learned alot from these fine gentlemen here and I hope they let me stay around a bit longer still. :D

Tac, please do not presume that I belived or do believe you to be rude, snide, impolite, patronising, superior,or unpleasant. I think nothing of the sort nor did I say such.
Truth be known, I find most of your posts just the opposite and oftentimes humorous to boot.
Most English speakers here in the US are ignorant of any other language unlike many of our English and European Friends.
I just felt that it would be a class act to correct a fellow collectors post if one could write a little Dutch so he could correct right back!
Peet is to be commended for communicating in a Foreign language as well as he does.
Tac, I am sure your corrections were helpfull to him.

The gun laws overhere in The Netherlands are like this;
If you want to start owning/shooting guns you will have to become a member of a shootingclub. You will have to bring a paper from the police stating that you do not have a criminal record.
Then, first of all they'll teach you all about safely handling a gun:) Then, for the first year you'll have to use the club's guns, starting with .22's and later on you can move up step by step. You have to show up regularly for practicing.

After that first full year you are allowed to buy one gun. That is; you can choose/buy a gun, but not take it home immediately. You take only the 'frame'number and with these the club will prepare an approval-document. Take this to the police, together with your club membership-card, and they will give you permission to pick up the gun at the gunstore. At the same time they will grant you a permit on which you're weapons will be registered.
Within a week you have to show up at the policestation again to show them the new gun. Checking numbers, name and type.

After another full year you are allowed to buy more guns, with a total of 5 because that is the max overhere. :( Almost everything is allowed, as long as it is a handgun or a rifle and not fully automatic. And the max is .50 but even only when your club allows you to shoot it inside their building (and not much do!) There are not many outdoor-shooting-ranges here; people who want to shoot at 300+ yards have to go to the military-ranges where once in a while civilians are allowed to shoot.

One of the rules for keeping your permit is; you have to stay a member of a club and you must shoot there at least 18 times per year.

At home your guns must be locked away in a vault/safe and the ammo in another vault/safe.
Your permit allows you to travel, with your gun(s) in the shortest possible way to the club.

There is a special 'collectors'permit; but you have to join a special collectors-society and prove that you are seriously going to collect guns.

Peet--thanks for the info. You live in a beautiful country. I visited there when I was a kid and my Dad was in the U.S. Army in Germany. But, excuse my French, your gun laws are a bunch of merde.

As a new guy, I realize that political commentary may be inappropriate here. It seems like your government tries to make it as difficult as possible for gun owners.
