Hello Forum

As I wrote in my first post, I am interested in buying a Luger. Some years ago I met a guy who said that he has one and he may be willing to sell it. So I called him three days ago an we will meet between christmas and new years eve. He sent me the attached pictures.

I have no additional information right now.

So, my question:
  • What is your suggestion for a reasonable price? (Yes, I know... There is difference between the markets of the US and Germany :rolleyes:)

Hi Kiel-78,
Those are dreadful photos! With that disclaimer my guess is that it's a 1906 Navy in original, unrefinished, condition. Assuming that it has all matching number parts, not including the magazines, it would be worth $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 here in the US. If it has a single non-matching part, considerably less.

I agree, it's very hard to tell much from the photos.
But, it does look like it's worth checking out.

What is the serial number ?

Get some photos in outdoors with indirect sunlight.

The frame ear at the thumb safety has been altered/routed. Don't know if it is now "up" safe or "down" safe.

Down : safe , I think , 1906 first issue altered

In France , a nice navy is about 6K€

Today I went to the seller and we had a very good conversation. He told me that he had the idea to sell the gun for 1200€, because that the price he paid 30 years ago in Deutsche Mark (we changed from Deutsche Mark to Euro in 2002, the ratio was 1,96DM = 1 EURO)

BUT one of his hunting collegues told him that these guns may be worth a lot more... So we had to discuss a little bit. ;-)
We came over that I will check the market, get as much information as possible and then we will have a fair deal.

Today I just made pictures. Please enjoy some them and tell me what you think.

For the first 20 readers all pictures are for seven days HERE to download. Feel free to repost them if you have a comment on it.

(I just realised that I did't take a picture of the complete gun:banghead:)

This pistol is in rough condition to say the least. The imperfections have been covered over in some sort of bluing. I'd say do yourself a favor and pass on it at any price.

You need to look at some Lugers and come up with a standard for what you think a presentable piece looks like before you start spending money. Do not depend on the judgement of others.

I mean this constructively and I hope you take it that way.

Hi Kiel-78,
We really need better photos, and more of them, to make a determination. The front half of the pistol looks fine, the rear half looks poor.

@Yakman

Yes, definitely. It is a very good advise. :thumbup:
A little bit like asking your friends what to do for a perfect date. A lot people can tell what THEY think s perfect. But at least you have to make your own experience and find out what's the best to do ;)

@Norme

I added 76 pics under the link... I thought that may be ok. The next time, in January, I will take my camera with me. Today I had only my smartphone. The pictures looked quite good on the small screen :confused:
