The condition of the routed/milled safety area is a prime diagnostic for the condition of the pistol. It requires examination in detail. The over-all view shown in this presentation is not adequate.

See the attachment.

Dwight,

Let me guess, the bottom 3 are legit, the top 3 are reblued and questionable, the center and right top ones are bogus. Did I get it right?

I was just looking through some of my old notes and noticed that I have #7564 recorded. It has been known for a while. Sam Costanzo reported it and unfortunately I didn't note the date but it had to be in the early 1980's.

Heh. The bottom three are Old Model Swiss military sn 128; New Model sn 25091; and New Model sn 55166. The top three are Alphabet Commercial Swiss-market original applications: sn 2343i, 3082i, and 3191i. They are all original. I made this composite several years ago to show the comparison between pre-war and post-war milled safety applications, how the care in milling these markings had deteriorated. It is a small part of a much longer article: https://forum.lugerforum.com/showthr...light=alphabet, a pre-made demonstration I dredged from my archives. I presented them here to demonstrate the detail photograph necessary to show the characteristics necessary to make any kind of determination.

Not close enough or sharp enough to make a determination. Hence my comparison example upscreen.

To make it perfectly clear, this is a full-resolution example of what I am talking about.

Hmmm, actually the Forum will not display "full resolution," the original is 2,500 x 3,000 pixels. But you get the idea.
