1900 Commercial - Reblued?

This is a DWM Model 1900 Commercial 7.65mm for sale at Simpson's, SN is 3819. It looks beautiful, but it looks too good to be true, as described. Take a look at the BUG proofs and the gash under the barrel mount- I think it looks re-blued. Opinions?

The c/B,U,G barrel proofs have no halo. The guns of the Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin collection need to be examined very closely.

Very Suspect, but a very good job.

That's what I call an awesome luger... perhaps too awesome... would be interesting to examine it properly

George Anderson 11-16-2017 08:33 AM

It's definitely been reblued.

I would guess if Simpson's thought the finish was original they would have said so- they only "claim"
98% blue.
But it is a very nice job.

"bore is worn and pitted" That says it all!

beautifully done, but a re-blue as George indicated. The DWM on the toggle is a mere wisp of the original stamping... The gun exhibits their import mark, so Simpsons evidently didn't acquire it stateside. I still wouldn't classify it as a shooter... too nice for that.

Nice restoration, no doubt~ Great gun to start out a nice luger collection! I hate import marks!! Dumb Law With No Special Purpose!!!

They do have a purpose, well at least two :
1-Tracing imported weapons sold into US commerce and
2-annoying collectors.

A third and most important purpose is to help consumers make buying decisions. For example, try to find an American manufactured garden tool at Walmart. You won't. Try True Value Hardware where you will find US manufactured products.

Yes but you can't buy ammo at True Hardware!!

I mail order all of mine; I can’t remember the last time I bought ammo over the counter - from anywhere.

We can in Wisconsin.

And I too have been using gunbot.net for all ammo purchases for several years now
