Potland Gun Show Report--April

Portland Gun Show this weekend. Several Usual Suspects with Lugers were absent, Jerry Kramer didn't bring any.

Scattered around the hall:

the usual 1900AE table queen $1.6k

1918 DWM, 80%, $800

1906AE Safe/Loaded, rebarrelled/refinished, $2.5k

1908 Commercial, altered/refinished, $795

Code 40 1941, really good condition, turning plum, %900

byf 41, $800

s/42 really sad force-match/restamp shooter, $600

Highlight of this show is Jim W's display/sales table. A couple of LP-08s, a couple of 06 Navys, 1900 and 06 AEs, 1900 Swiss, a handful of WWII Mausers, a handful of shooters, some accessories, some leather, and that was just Friday. Today there was added a 1902AE Fat Barrel and a Simson Suhl. Not much of a chance to see some of the less common items around here, so it was a good opportunity for me. Its a great display, and provides a good conversation.

thanks for your kind words, Dwight. Your visit provided a nice distraction from the boredom of a slow and highly commercialized show.

I haven't been to one of the Rose City shows up at the Expo Center in Portland in many years. Commercialized is the perfect word for the shows there. I was flabbergasted by the prices at the last one I went to. Also, surplus military Model 98 rifles (my main interest) are always rare birds at that show for some reason. Great exercise though, huge hall, tons of tables - my legs always used to hurt the next day after walking around that palatial place.

I also liked Jim W's display. It was nice to see some of the more rare items and find out that some of the items that I want are merely expensive and not out of reach.

The Astra display was there again and had a Condor in it this time. For those who like these Spanish pistols, it is a treat to see one. I bought a Chilean Navy Astra from another table.

By the time I got back to a table that had some Swiss bayonets for a K31, he had already packed up and left a couple of hours before the show was to end. I guess he really did not want to sell his stuff after all.

It was nice to talk to Jim and Dwight.
