Am awaiting a stock but took it down to the wash on my property and fired off 16 rounds (Speer Lawman 115 gn.) Operates beautifully and I think I'll be pleased shooting at 100 yards.
This is only 20 yards off hand. Slightly adjusted right after a few. The target was upside down when shooting...

The precision of the action when operating is just something else. I've never had a firearm that I don't use.... just can't do that.

I shot my first Whitetail with an original Colt model 1861 Special circa 1863. I have shot a bull elk and buck antelope with it since. I also hunt upland game with original muzzleloading shotguns. I own very few modern firearms and shoot every original that I have. Some more than others. I currently hold five National Records in BPTR, (Black Powder Target Rifle) using an unaltered Model 1884 Springfield shooting black powder and lead bullets. There are fun.

very cool that. I have flintlocks and modern weapons. I really enjoy my WW2 snipers ..US, Mauser and Japanese.
I've always had a soft spot for colonial period flintlocks...

It was a one off by the owner that I purchased it from.... he periodically makes a rifle.. .54 cal and Colerain swamped barrel. 1760's era Colonial with a thicker stock/Butt plate that was popular at that time.

Firing a black powder musket is an awesome experience.
Loading it up, packing down the ball and wad.
Cocking it.
All the mechanics, the weight and balance, the long firing delay, the kick of a 1/2" lead ball, the smell of gun powder and the surprising accuracy once the smoke clears.

It's quite an experience.

That is the equivalent to shooting a marble and a bowling ball..!!

If the lock is well made there is not much of a delay at all with a flint.... I can fire this rifle upside down and it ignites perfectly and quickly. Much of that depends upon proper flint napping. You can get a good 20 rounds off prior to a quick in place/in the **** napping.
It is also extremely accurate and will button hole multiple rounds.

The Brits were afraid of these rifles for a reason.

I shoot at least two 40 shot BPCR Silhouette matches per month using either a 45-70 or 45-90 pushing a 540 grain lead bullet. Recoil is very manageable and by the end of the match, I am no worse off that when I started. My go to hunting rifle is a left-hand Hawkin 50 cal percussion half-stock. I have shot four bull elk and many cow elk with it along with several mule deer and one black bear. Black powder, lead projectiles, and open sights can be an awesome experience.
