1935 Luger value
 

Hello all,

I have an opportunity to pick up a matching Luger and I was hoping to get some input. Currently I own three very nice Lugers that I do not shoot. My goal is to get a shooter grade gun for fun.

At this time I only have a few photos and I have not seen it in person.

The sell says its a 1935 matching pistol in 9mm.

From the pictures, I think it is a military Mauser with exterior pitting and a lot of finish loss. The owner says the barrel is in good shape.

Based on the limited photographs, assuming it is matching, what do you think the price should be?

You didn't show the toggle, and it doesn't have the 'hump'. What makes you think it is a Mauser?

Prices are high for everything these days; I would have said maybe $900 but $1K is acceptable I guess...It may go fast, but for $1K I would expect a good bore (maybe some freckling but not a sewer pipe). Rough exterior is a minus, again a subjective valuation.

Barrel and sideplate look different than the rest of the pistol. Could be a plus.

I'm an older accumulator; if it looks as good in person as in pics I would jump on it. I like to enjoy my toys for a while. ;)

Most 1935 Mauser P08's (G dated) do not exhibit the "Mauser hump". The gun shown could well be a G date.

My take on that would be: I would be more amenable to purchasing a G date that any other 1935 but I would not spend more for it. IOW, $900 for this (if indeed a G date) would be my ceiling. :thumbup:

I think I will pass on it. I will keep an eye out for a shooter that is in better shape. I know it will cost a bit more, but in the end I would be happier.

Mid-1930’s Mausers are among the finest Luger builds. If it is indeed all matching just with lots of finish wear, you’ll be hard pressed to find a “better” quality shooter in terms of metallurgy and fit/finish. Just my .02.

I think I should have provided more info with my original post to provide some context.

The owner wanted to trade his Luger for a rifle that is valued at $2500 +/-. The value of the two are not even close and I don't want risk insulting the owner by debating the value of his Luger.

I simply declined the trade and I will eventually purchase a different Luger for shooting.

I am always impressed by the level of knowledge people are willing to share on this forum.

IMO you are you did the right thing ... I absolutely love Luger's but this is a tough Luger to love.

I would have liked to have seen the toggle.
