Mauser produced Swiss Lugers

What is the story behind the Swiss Lugers produced by Mauser in the 1930's. How many were made and when. What was the S/N range. What does Bobba have to say about these guns. They are referred to as Model 06/34, is this another misnomer like 06/24.

Regardless of what experts might say. I, myself, have a question: Why on earth would the Swiss government make a contract with Mauser if they were producing the pistol in their Bern facilities.

Cost...

Bobba does discuss these Mauser made Swiss Lugers. I'm not near the book right now, but will check if nobody else posts a reply.

A member here recently offered one for sale through Simpson that was from a very unusual serial number block.

Here's a post about one in the "v" block:

But then, why did they opt to stop buying from DWM in the first place, and set up their own plant? Something doesn't add up in this story.

And don't tell me they trusted Adolf more than they did the Kaiser. :D

The Swiss Lugers produced by Mauser in the 1930's were commercial guns. W+F produced their Model 1900/06 only for the Swiss Army and not for the commercial market.

World War I cut off the supply of German made Lugers. They had to start producing their own in 1918. There were no acquisitions from DWM during WW-I with sn 15215 being the last one in 1914.

The redesign of the 06/29 W+F was motivated by cost reduction.

Even in 1933/1934 it's likely that the Swiss understood that their commercial acquisition of guns from German manufacturers would take third position behind German military sales and German internal commercial sales.

Bobba discusses the Mauser Commercial 06/34 model on pages 132-133. Numbering was between 3600v and 3900v; numbering not in rigid order and with a couple of odd serials reported outside that range. Perhaps 1,800 reported made. They had aluminum base magazines.
