Putzzeug...?
Okay, this nice Swiss luger brass tool kit is called a "Putzzeug".
I have attached a photo... Does any one know what Putzzeug means ? http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/SwissToolKit-3.jpg |
I went to several language translators on the web, and they say it isn't a word or they don't have that language to translate to English. I imagine it is part of a word or abbreveation maybe?
Although in German it means "Cleaning Things", so that is probably close? |
Putz means clean,(Putzen, to clean) "zeug" can mean items or objects, for example a tool is a "werkzeug" - work item, Also can be a variation of the word "ziehen" which means to pull. The past tense of "ziehen" is "gezogen", slang can mean "zug" or a cleaning pull through. Can't put the umlaut pronunciation on with this computer.

Real close Ed, in fact literally dead on! "Putzen" is the infinitive form of "to clean", and "zeug" is "material","things", or "stuff".
