Good job Dwight... now don't tell anyone, make'em work for it. :D

John D. 11-07-2003 11:13 AM

Pssssttttt - John S.......

You have yet to find one of the changes I made a bit ago, and my $$$$$$ was on you that you'd be the first to find it!!! It's right up your "alley" - so to speak :)

Heh, heh......!!!

John Sabato 11-07-2003 11:19 AM

I think you better check your email again... I sent you a query about that... and haven't yet received a response... and what do you mean by (Moderator and Website) seems like an incomplete thought :)

John D. 11-07-2003 10:10 PM

I'll bet you thought I was ignoring you.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Nope - just working on some new stuff - which is pretty neat... But - the link I was talking about is in the Centerfolds - which has about 500 or so unsorted photos as a "Gallery" :)

Now - about that new stuff - when I get closer to something to "preview" - I'll post it up, but I think I have a neat solutions to the:
- Spell Checker;
- A new overall Forums page with quick links, a "portal", and what posts you haven't seen - but are active in;
- Making the previous Lugerforum Board archived posts an incorporated and intergral part of a Forum (there are (28,500+ posts there to bring in <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> );
- A real "attachment" for uploading pictures in posts - rather then the "upload" alone (Hey Tom A. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> );
- A way to subscribe to both THREADS and Forums - and Replies to threads folks have responded within;
- A way to "integrate" all the firearm collectors forums I host/program/support (this one, and the P 38 & PPK/S);
- A single point to search all the archives from all these Forums;
- the Ability to set a single profile across all the Forums;
- A member site and features that allow for personalized sites, URLs, Uploads, tracking;
- A Gallery that is part of the overall Forum;
- A Calendar which is "public", so folks can post gun shows, locations, events, etc.;
- A new layout and de.......

Well - you get the idea.......

Best to all for a terrrfic weekend!

- John D.

the "gallery" is really nice, a CD of all of them :) would be cool

John D. 11-08-2003 08:47 AM

Well - to be honest - I hadn't thought of that!!! :)

Hey - I thought you'd mention the "centerfold" comment???.. HEH!!!!

Best to you Ed..!!!!

Thor 11-08-2003 10:03 AM

I really like the calendar idea!

Russ 11-08-2003 10:06 AM

John D
Don't you ever sleep :D <img border="0" alt="[sleep]" title="" src="graemlins/sleep.gif" /> You really put a lot of time and effort in this forum.

Thanks Russ

OK - After today - I'm ready to have whoever wants to take a look at the POTENTIAL NEW site forums.....

If you were registered on THIS site this AM - YOU are also registered there. To log in:

Use your SCREEN NAME from this forum (the name your public posts appear under, like:
Edward Tinker; or
John D. ; or
Thor; or
Tom A.)

Your password is unchanged from this Forum.....

A couple of things.......

All the sites I host have ARCHIVES on the new site, like the P 38 Forum, the PPK/S Forum, the previous Lugerforum, etc.... Look to the bottom of the page to find these archives and links to the Forums;

The calendar works;

Photos MAY BE uploaded directly into a post, without using the LugerForum "Upload" and linking as an image;

The spell check works;

There are some new Forums/areas;

Anything you post IN THAT FORUM - if I take this new forum on-line, will be deleted - that Forum is still BETA;

You can "subscribe" to Forums, threads, etc.;

You will receive e-mail notices of replies to posts;

I'm still working on the "import" scripts - so NOT all private messages will appear in your profile;

All posts from this AM today from the past 5 years from all Forums have been imported;

This is a TEST FORUM only!!! :) Use and play at your own risk...!!!

Also - if it seems "slow"right now - that whole site is sitting on my workstation - not a server right now, and I'm indexing the SEARCH database in background....

BTW - This is a TEST only!!! :) ...!!!!!

OK - read all the above???

John D,
I encountered a familiar problem on the new site (had same problem on RimfireCentral.com). It involves a conflict with Norton Internet Security 2004. The Ad Blocker function identifies the thread listings as advertisements and blocks them out. To solve this problem, you can either disable the ad blocker when on the forum, or go into advanced Ad Blocker settings and remove "AdId=" from the default list.

I post this in case anyone else runs into this problem. I do remember a few months ago John Sabato posted this crazy "Flames of Hell" gif that locked up my computer and nobody elses. I'm on that same computer so maybe I'm the only one affected again?

Jack

Hi Jack..!

Great feedback - thanks! Let me snoop around on the Norton FAQs and understand what the call is that Norton dislikes. As you mention, you can also put an exception in on the Firewall itself for the domain (I wouldn't bother yet - until I decide if we are going to migrate, what the final URL will be <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ). I'm also working on some backend features - which may work pretty well.

Again - thanks Jack for the feedback - it's much appreciated!!!

I tried adjusting my settings and maybe I have just gotten "unlucky" but can't get to the site at all John, today or yesterday.

Ed

John D. 11-09-2003 10:36 AM

Oh - I banned you already :D :D

Just kidding!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Since it's a NEW IP address, it may take a while to propogate to your DNS servers... I'm guessing that when you try to open it - you get a "404 Not Found" error???

Best to you Ed..!!! And let me know when you are on - as I have something I need you to try out...

Best to you!!

John D.

Edward Tinker 11-09-2003 10:52 AM

Actually, it is this one:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

John D. 11-09-2003 11:00 AM

yep - dat's a "404" under IE...

But - I'll bet'cha if you go to the IP - it should work (at least the first page, depending on how your DNS interepts the SLD in the DNS)... Try this:

http://64.145.15.196/forums/

Edward Tinker 11-09-2003 11:03 AM

That worked!

I was thinking I usually get a 404 when it is specifically screwed up?

Will play around a bit,

Sent you an e-mail a bit ago...

John D. 11-09-2003 11:08 AM

Ahhh - I'm at the office programming and backing up some databases. Will check e-mail in a bit. However - try logging in as "Edward Tinker" - and look around. Next - I'm going to put you into another "group" - and watch what happens - some New Forums magically appear :) - and you have an huge set of new capabilities....

Let me know when you are ready for me to change your status on the test Forum, OK??

Edward Tinker 11-09-2003 11:19 AM

Playing now, see P38 posting, can "change" status whenever, :D

When I signed on, saw 11 new PM's, and they weren't for me?

Ed
