Is this holster original?
 

Hello,
I am new to this forum and have been learning a lot from you.
I recently purchased a 1942 BYF Luger and I am looking for a holster. Please let me know on the originality of this holster.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

This is probably not what you want to hear but IMO this is a deliberately stressed reproduction.

I recently acquired these 2 at auction for $32.50.
The one on the right is why I bid ... I believe it is a post war Belgium P.08 holster ... if its not it still is a decent holster.
The reproduction holster on the left is not bad considering what I paid for it but IT IS a reproduction.

Your holster looks original to me.

I haven't purchased it yet. The asking price is $550.00 and I just want to make sure it's all original.

looks dubious to me - i'd think twice before investing that much -

The stitching, stamps(markings) and price all scream "Run Away".

The code stamped on this holster "dla" equates to: Karl Barth, Militaereffekten-Fabrik, Waldbroehl, Rheinland.
Waiting to see what Jerry or other holster experts say.:confused:

Compare this holster. Same date, maker, stamps, and stitching. Looks original to me. I don't believe the OP's holster is worth $550 though.

The OP holster is pretty rough around the edges. This indicates leather/thread condition issues. The magazine pouch stitching would concern me. I certainly wouldn't want to pay this much given what I see. The holster is no fake/repro. It's period. The inside is red and dry looking..like Bill says..I would LIKE to like it. but I don't.

Greg, my Rottweiler caught a look at your $32 repro and immediately started salivating & drooling.

When I bid on the pair I only wanted the 2nd one so in reality I only paid $16.25 each. .... I am pretty pleased. :thumbup:

Thank you all so much for all your opinions and advise. I will pass on this holster. I currently have a 1942 byf Luger with one magazine so the search continues to complete my full rig. I was recently bidding on a matching magazine for my Luger on E Bay but the bidding went up all the way to $560.00! So I guess patience is the name of the game. Again Thank you all for your valued opinions.

$550.00 buys a lot of holster Rene. My advice is to see a reputable dealer and leave the guesswork out of the equation.

I Purchased my Luger from Legacy Collectables based on the advise on this forum. Attached are some photos of my Luger. So I will be keeping an eye on thier website for a suitable holster.

Greg, Nah, the little guy would be poisoned. Thanks for your generosity though! Good advice though..keep looking. The right one will appear sooner or later. In the meanwhile..get a good education on holsters so you KNOW what you might be looking at.

A couple of hints..original holsters have a distinct shape to the top & the magazine pouch . like a beautiful woman..the curves are all pleasing. Look at enough correct holsters and you can tell from a distance.

Take a close look at the closure buckle. Originals will always have sharp turned corners. 90 degrees. Repro buckles will have wide sweeping corners.

Remember to look at the belt loops. A slight cant and even to one another. lay a straight edge on the stitching lines and they will all line up. The two short lines of stitching to the right bottom of the left loop will line up as well. These anchor in the pull up strap. Look at the three holes in the closure strap. They will not be round but oval. There are another dozen tells to look at but the more you look the more you will see. Eugene Bender produced a very good book on Luger holsters. Luger Holsters & Accessories. It's a fun & fascinating read for many reasons but get a copy and study what original German Luger holsters really look like. The Germans had been making leather items for centuries and the absolute height of their leather craftsmanship is evident in their abilities to make these fascinating holsters. You should first see the quality. Anything less than stellar quality and suspicious ideas creep into my mind.
