Shooter Grade Navy
Perhaps a candidate for restoration...this Navy may sell for an appropriate amount. Poor thing.
Is it in the data base? https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/1902-N...512&rfpb=0#Top |
That serial number, 8862, appears on the list twice! Both entries also list the guns as unit marked. This piece on the auction is not unit marked, so are there three Navys with the same serial number? Hope Norm chimes in on this one.
Ron Woops, just took a second look. It is a short frame gun with no grip safety, and the photo captions say it is 1917 dated...I shouldn't have posted in haste as I only looked at the serial numbers on the list and only looked at the 1906 entries. It is not on Norm's list. |
As Ron says, it's a short frame so it's either a 1916 or 1917 dated Navy. Unfortunately the pictures are so poor it's impossible to tell which, however since 1916 Navy serial numbers top out at #8000 I'm going to enter it on the list as a 1917.

This would a candidate for a decent restoration. I'm not a fan of this kind of thing, but this gun is beyond any collectable interest anyway. It would look great at the range with a repro stock.
