Krieghoff serial #7947

Am looking for this pistol. Belonged to my grandfather, was stolen some years ago. Just found the capture paper work with serial #, was not known at the time of theft. Also the grips would not match gun. The gun was stolen in NW Ohio and possibly sold at the Tri-state Gun Collectors Show in Lima, Ohio. The grips on the gun when stolen where a clear plastic that my granpa had put on at they end of the war, the others wherebroken when the plane crashed. Said he pulled the gun off the pilot. Long shot I know, but any help would be appreciated

Sarge5

Welcome to the Lugerforum.

More information is definitely needed to find a particular pistol that you are interested in. Especially if you are looking for a pistol that has been reported stolen.

Is there a suffix letter to go with this serial number... The suffix letter is an integral part of the serial number and also the year of manufacture is crucial...

are there any special identifying marks or inscriptions? Are the grips wooden or bakelite?

Without this information you are really looking for several pistols with this basic 4 digit number... There could possibly be a Krieghoff Luger with this serial number for every year that they manufactured them...

Hey John,

As I understand, the HK's were numbered sequentially through the entire 10,000+ contract.

Starting at # 1 and way past the # 13,xxx's. Numbers did not revert back to "zero" or "one" at each chamber date year; so letter suffices are not seen on HK's.

I think the 100 or so post war HK's assembled from parts started over again an "1" and went up.

Our Forum adminstrator, John Dunkle, has maintained a pretty detailed serial number list. Maybe John D. can tell us if this stolen gun is on his list...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

thanks Pete... I learn something every day too.

and Yes, John D. may know the history on that piece...

I'll send him an email and ask him to check in.

Hi Sarge5 - I'd like to join the others and add my "Welcome to the Forum"..!

From your post - my guess is that you know this Krieghoff, being brought back from Europe by your grandfather.

Unfortunately - it is not in my database with the current owner as a reported serial number. However - it *is* in my database now - and if I discover it in the future - I will let you know. I will also let other Krieg collectors know, if you don't mind....

Can you do me a favor - and either e-mail me or send me a private message as to how to get a hold of you other then e-mail? If I do discover it's whereabouts, I would certainly like to let you know so you can recover it (it sounds like you know when/where/whom it was stolen from).

My Best to you - and thanks agian for your post...!
