Who made all the P.08 magazines?
 

I was just wondering if there might be a chart somewhere as to the manufacturers of P.08 magazines. Dates of usage in Lugers would be a plus.

I recently saw some discussion about Erma-made magazines that I had never heard about and it got me to thinking just how ignorant I was on this subject.

We do discuss some of them in the FAQ, but I don't think there is a comprehensive list.

Many were made in smaller quantities and aftermarket.

There is no chart, one needs to be made
DWM made them imperial era
Erfurt made them imperial era

Weimar era - I think DWM quit making them at some point and Schmeisser made them from then on.

29 Swiss made by Paillard... documented.

Erma made Luger magazines post war, as well as their .22lr mags.

MFT in Tilburg, The Netherlands, made the post war Parabellum magazines (and HSc ones) for Mauser.

East German mags by Ernst Thälmann Werke in Suhl.

Thanks Gerben, I always get Paillard mixed up with Pfanniger Stahl (maybe Pfanniger made the steel that Paillard used to make the magazines?:))

Paillard was into fine mechanical toys and musical devices as well. I think they had the material and equipment.

Funny, Bing in Nürnberg was also a toy maker.

Also weird is the number of suppliers of Swiss cleaning kit parts.

If I remember correctly, the Haenel - Schmeisser facility that made the "fxo" marked E/37 accepted magazines (the milled welded steel ones) was the same facility taken over by the socialized Ernst Thalmann organization in East Germany after WW-II in Suhl.

The Thalmann mark was 2/1001

In the years 1951 to 1962, the Danish company DISA produced magazines for the P.08. Some are stamped Made In Denmark, at the bottom of the magazine. Magazines were delivered to the USA, England, Germany and Norway, in addition to Denmark.

Back about 20+ years ago, I wrote a letter to Ernst Thalmann organization about recreating some mag shells for me? They were kind to me and return messaged me with the following. That all projects had to be submitted to a corporation control board / group, that would verify whether or not the project was viable or no? Of course, my request was far from feasible, and furthermore, if they would have accepted my request, they wouldn't have done it on a war time design as well? I would guess meaning that the method was obsolete even when they were running them full tilt during the war. I did inquire here in the states, to an aero space industry about making the shells, I had submitted a print and was right on the cusp of ordering 6' lengths of cold formed drawn tubing. (a lot of people confuse this with extrusion, which it is not!) but was stopped by the remaining forging and machine operations needed to complete the quest... And, I was flat broke, which hasn't really changed much over the decades.. Now, currently, the Mec-Gar magazine are of such quality it renders any other attempts to make mags unnecessary! The "Levalois" process was used in France to manufacture magazines for "French" lugers from 45 to 46

The sheet metal body comes from a plate folded at the rear and welded in the middle of the back, at the same time a thin plate is in place at the back inside to consolidate the whole .
The bottom is also different
