Unit markings
also a section dedicated to unit markings would be very helpful.

I think the suggestion for a section covering unit markings is excellent.

I fully agree, Jan's books are a great help but occasionally I cant find the exact match for the marking in question, and I am sure I try to extrapolate meanings. I hope this happens. The one puzzling me right now is G.F.M.G.8

Jan, thanks for helping ID my 1929 weimar police luger.

Thor
G.F.M.G.8. signifies Garde-Fusilier-Regiment, Machinengewehr-Kompagnie, waffe no. 8. This unit has an interesting history. What is the Luger? G.F.M.G.10. is found on a 1906 test Luger. Consider me if you sell it. Jan C. Still |
Hi Folks..!
Sorry for the delayed reply - but today has been a tad - umm - "frantic"??!! I really like the idea of a Unit Markings Forum!! Good one - so thanks for the suggestion! Let me grab a few minutes and try to set that up, OK? Also - in another thread I just read in this Forum about a "reloading/shooting Section" I like that too. These two Forum are somewhat "generic" to collecting and not variation specific - so let's see what I can do there as well... As for a spotting a fake Luger - my impression is that may be more "variation" specific. For example - spotting a faked Krieg and the tell tales would be a little different then spotting a faked "byf" or Navy. So, my guess is that folks will probably post them into the variation specific forum where those with a common background interest would "hang out"..?? If that isn't the case - maybe we should revisit this suggestion though.. Thanks a million for the input - let me try to get the new areas set up! |
