Navy Toggle Train

Hi

FYI. There is a very nice DWM toggle chain with all the pieces on ebay auctions. The pictures appear to be a Navy.

navy toggle...

Hi Rich, yup! That's me trying to win it!........ going to get expensive... Let's see how far I can go and still hang in there...:jumper::jumper:... best to all, til...lat'r....GT

I had thought about bidding on it, but if G.T. wants it, that is good enough for me....besides I think that it is going to get expensive before all is said and done.

reason....

Hi doc, and thanks for the consideration, although I like Navy sights all on their own... the reason I'm bidding on it is to examine the possibility of converting (no modifications to the toggle) the navy rear toggle piece so it will accept a target type sight slide assembly?? I need a benchmark piece, and this seems to be pretty decent...pictures aren't the best, but it looks correct... Anyway, I think it'll go high, but we'll see... with my luck it will match some ones serial number and then the sky is the limit!!!........ All in all, things are improving in the G.T. Specialties cave... Best to all, til...lat'r....GT:cheers:

Hi Rich...

Yeah, you're probably right... I'll most likely end up with a couple of Navy rear toggles along the way....... I really want a nice one for a benchmark for future projects... Problem is, usually when they come around... I'm broke... I have a little in my pocket now, so it's kind of a, "do it!", or, "don't do it!" situation for me... :jumper:... I just love messing with Luger stuff, and I can't get enough of it... Wish I was getting younger instead of older... I'd have more time to play with Lugers!... Best to you Rich, til...lat'r.....GT:cheers:

GT - Ive had similar thoughts about making a custom target format sight slider to fit onto the machined slider rail of original luger navy toggle

seems like it should be somehow fixed at the 100 (closed) position and have windage only for durability and allow a blade / notch large enough to be actually usable by older eyes as well as younger , etc

the two slider ramp notches could be locations to allow fastening with side set screws and would likely not require any changes to the slider rail itself

anyway - I do have a spare original navy toggle asy - and I could loan to you awhile for your effort - perhaps offset loan value in trade for some rebarreling/other luger services or maybe for a few of the custom target sight asys when you have success - and then return when you are finished with the prototyping etc - would be a way for you to allocate funds to some other purchase

I think this asy has a small amount of rust on the slider ears and otherwise is excellent orig blue etc

probably the target package would need only only some sort of elevation adj front sight or swappable height front sight to have a complete set

or - if you prefer - I would consider sale of the toggle asy to you for $500 with full insp return privilege

thanks !!! and good luck with the projects
Bill

toggle received!!

Got it today! And, it's in screamingly nice condition... going to be the basis for a few future projects ...also, a navy shooter when it's not sitting on the drafting table...... looking for a nice Navy barrel to go with it.... Best to all, til...lat'r....GT:cheers:

Olle 06-08-2013 08:33 PM

Cool, keep us updated on the progress! I just picked up a Navy barrel and rear toggle myself, so now I just have to figure out how that sight comes apart so I can refinish it.

I have only had two cups of coffee this morning, so I'm not sure if I understand... There is an L-shaped dowickie that I suspect needs to be removed somehow, but I don't know how to go about it.

G.T. 06-11-2013 01:30 PM

hi Olle

That little slanted arm on the left hand side, is just an extension from the pin that goes thru to hold the coupling link, (part that goes down into the recoil pivot arm, bellcrank??)... drive that pin out from right to left... Push in the button, and the sight slider will come of the toggle.....best to you, til...lat'r...GT

Aha, I thought there was a way to wiggle it out. Ok, I'll pound it out then.

G.T. 06-11-2013 04:28 PM

super careful!!!

support the toggle well, have a flat face perfect dia. punch... and tap straight.... it should really push out... but you aren't going to find a replacement......proceed with extreme caution.... best of luck to you Olle, til...lat'r....GT
