Two Artys spotted
One appears to be a commercial mix-master http://www.gunauction.com/buy/13323638/
The other, a rust-master. Pretty rough. We see no photos of the inside. Several years ago, Ed Tinker commented that pretty much any Arty shooter was worth a thousand. I think the starting price on this one is a little high. http://www.gunauction.com/buy/13312495/ |
yeah, I think its a bit high, although if someone buffed it hard and reblued pretty, it would attract buyers :)

If its internals are as good as they can be on externally pitted pistols like this, maybe it's worth cleaning up. The bore is rusty, and the rear sight leaf is beginning to disappear into a pile of oxide. Might be a fun starter for someone...
|
The surface pitting is not real deep, at least what I can see from the photos. Careful draw filing and hand resurfacing (no buffing!) and it might turn out reasonably well. It would have to be a labor of love because it would require a lot of patience.

Nice gun but a bit too rusty to me; I bet Thor could turn it into a real masterpiece.

Got to love that description of the "rust bucket"; it has a "pleasing patina".
Well, that must be Madison Ave. "speak" for in bad shape! |
It has an un pleasing patina. That rust bucket has sailed. It should be worth around $400 tops.

Thanks for sharing, Lifer !
The first one looked like it might make a good shooter. The second one just looks like someone used it as a hammer and stored it in battery acid. I doubt it's even good for parts. |
That second artillery... Bloody poor way to treat a piece of history but I'd buy it and get it refinished if it was under $500. Nearly $1000 for that in that ... pleasing condition? I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to look at...

I think the 2nd artillery would be a great gun to take to a strange range. Do no more to it then is necessary to make it safe to shoot! Make up your own story on where you got it and how you were told it was a shooter and brush off any suggestion that it should be checked out by a knowledgeable gunsmith. When everyone gets away from you, have a blast...
