Do You Own Lugers You Would Never Shoot?

None of mine except a shooting luger I had been made for only that purpose! Sold to me by George Anderson! Beautiful reblued and fine tuned trigger~ Austria Barrel~

I consider all my Lugers to be "shooters". The Germans who made them weren't afraid to shoot them. If I break a part, I break a part. Not the end of the world. If I wanted to start a museum, I'd buy paintings.

I have now instead Fourteen Lugers~ I would never chance me destroying their each 100% complete, correct matching! There are those with all parts virginity~~~~I'm sure there are exceptions!!! Many lugers were repaired and parts replaced after years of use in two world wars. That is to be expected! I love them all! Its all in the description! I Love Them All, Period! The issue arises in selling or buying!!!!Our Forum is blessed with devoted members, anytime ready to instruct, suggest their opinions for free~ You can agree or disagree! Every luger is unique as is our friends with decades of devotion! Any knowledge or suggestions~More to have valuable free advice that can't be found in any book! Thank each and those Heros make who this possible~ New Member please express your questions freely, no matter! Ask Questions. They are sometime more important than the answers!!! Join in!!!

I lied! I shot four rounds from my 1914 DWM Rare Artillery Luger!! Powerful and Accurate! But Only Once~

None of them are "virgins". They have all been shot before. Someone else had them before you did, and before that guy, and so on.

Actually, I see it this way!

As mentioned above, all of these Lugers have been shot, if not recently, then for certain decades ago... Most will not ever break if the correct ammo is used, and seldom will break even if the wrong ammo is used! It is a gamble, or crapshoot, and the boogieman is always right there, ready to strike.
I have found that the worst enemy to my collectibles as far as damage or issues related to ownership, are mostly caused by me bumping, dropping, or in any other way possible, causing damage to a gun where before I handled it, it was just fine!....:(
So, I've come to the conclusion that I don't have the kind of "on-going" luck that is required for shooting an all matching Luger... It will break on me in a heartbeat! The rest of my lifes luck runs about the same. If I don't go looking for trouble, I can pretty much avoid trouble... All my shooters, whether a nice condition miss match, or a pigs ear condition Lugers run fine and seldom break, and that's probably the way i'll roll from here on out... Best to all, til....lat'r....GT...

To do so, I'd have to get another Luger and not shoot it.

I don't shoot my lugers. I would like to pass them on in as good a condition as possible. To shoot or not to shoot is solely up to the owner. What someone else does is none of my business. Bill

owned a 1918/1820 DWM for 4 decades + never once fired it - have all matching BYF 42 that i shoot [ 4.5 grs. red dot behind 125gr. Lee cast lead bullet , lubed with Lee liquid alox ] - several times a year for 5 decades with no problems - 5 decades ago almost all Lugers were considered shooters -

Every firearm I own, I shoot! My 30 cal. luger gets shot a lot!

spacecoast 03-30-2022 08:37 AM

I only shoot a few of mine. One of those is the Artillery with the GT-enhanced snail drum. :-)

DonVoigt 03-30-2022 02:49 PM

No, I would shoot any of them- but I don't; I have shooter lugers for shooting. ;)

This is one of those issues that seem to polarize folks.

1. I never shoot my collectibles, why risk it
2. I shoot all my guns, why have them otherwise
3. I always shoot them once to see how they shoot
4. I shoot my friends collectibles, but not my own
5. My guns were lost in the river when we were crossing the Delaware

Doubs 03-30-2022 03:32 PM

I have Lugers - all matching - that I do not shoot. I also have Lugers that I own just to shoot.

cirelaw 03-30-2022 07:04 PM

Same Here!!

sheepherder 03-30-2022 07:42 PM

I have not shot my 1900AE and won't. Some of my turn-of-the-century handguns I consider too dangerous to shoot (8mm Gasser; 32 Warner). Other handguns I have not yet shot because I am just too lazy (30 Super/Series 70 Colt auto; Luger carbine). I shot quite a bit when I was younger, then got interested in how they were produced, then got into wildcatting, now I'm into PAC-12 Women's College Gymnastics. ;)

joncon 03-30-2022 10:53 PM

I don't shoot my all matching Lugers. I have a refinished BYF42 and a Interarms Mauser for shooting.

hayhugh 03-31-2022 06:24 AM

I usually spend so much on the gun, I can't afford the ammo...
