Why Swiss?
 

I noticed Bob Simpson has 178 Swiss Lugers for sale~ Why are so many available and are they a good investment!! Do most have inport markings? http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?...sort=2a&page=2

Almost all of them in the USA have been import marked.

They are very high precision Lugers and are generally very well cared for. Many were arsenal refurbished to new condition when the officer that used them purchased them.

They have been pretty plentiful recently, with new imports comping in to several C&R dealers. I bought mine at auction or at shows locally, and they cost quite a bit less than I thought they would. I don't know that I would recommend them for investment because of plentiful supply and level demand, but they are very fine high precision pistols.

They are relatively plentiful because officers can purchase their service pistol at time of retirement, and also have them arsenal rebuilt at the time. Many come onto the market immediately, and some when the officer passes away.

Yes - I think most Swiss Lugers in the USA are import marked. Some that were brought in to the USA before the change in marking requirements were marked on the frame under the grips (many of the FGS Firearms / Chris Clark pistols were marked this way).

They were manufactured and issued new until 1948 when the Sig P210 started replacing it. As of 1968, most were likely still in service.

Eric, you can capture the screen you're viewing by hitting the Control/PrintScreen button on most Windows computers. This copies an image of the screen onto the copy/paste clipboard.

When you open an image editor like GIMP or Microsoft Paint / Windows Paint or other program for handling images, you can Paste the image into the picture editor, and then save the file as a "Jpeg".

This will capture what you see accurately and make it much more readable and usable. This sample is only 116kb in size instead of 186kb, which saves space...

Good Ole FGS, I purchased a 1929 with holster for $1800 and a lot of P38S, I miss them!! none were marked!! I will try it if I can~ TKS

Marc. I'm sure it was there as I was told the old man went to europe and brought back batches. He sold consecutive pairs of which I purchased a pair. In my following bad years I sold them all and bought this one!Tk God I switch to lugers!

I now have one 1906 Swiss from George and one P38, twenty lugers!
