d'armes & cycles de-Saint etienne Luger

I posted this on Jan's site also.
Looking for info on a Luger. Person came into my shop looking for info on a Luger he inherited. I told him I would research it for him. He will be stopping back with the actual Luger tonight. I did pick up some info on the internet. That's where the photo I posted came from. I know many things come into play on determining value, But is there a general price range on a good example of one of these? I'll be taking photos and posting when I see It in person. He states that it is a 9mm. Bob |
There is no "general price range"- for any luger, sorry.
All I can add to this one is that the barrel markings have been faked for years- so be careful. Someone will be along who knows the ins and outs, but you need to get good pictures posted for any reliable answer. |
Hi Bob,
Many of these "French Lugers" are fake and I myself am not qualified to pass judgement. If you really want to have your customer's gun verified you will HAVE to post high resolution photos of the actual gun, not photos off the internet. Warn your customer that at the end of the day he will more than likely be disappointed. Good luck, Norm |
Don, Norm,
Thanks for the info. Points well taken! Just what I was looking for. It gives me a good start as I didn't have a clue on this variation. I will be sure to take good photos and post them once I have the pistol in my hands. Bob |
Bob,
Also crucial to the determination is a photo of the number stamped at the bottom of the grip in front of the magazine well, if it exists. --Dwight |
1906 French Contract, To Tag Issue~

Dwight, this issue was previously discussed on our sister Forum. I researched and contacted Brad Simpson who has sold a few over the years! They were retailer inventory tags added for a particular order. He remembers all of his few, maybe 3 or 4 also each lacked any such toe markings. Mine is not a fake mearly because it lacks this singular retailer requested inventory marking? Respectivly some did and others like mine don't! These were commercial guns subject to a particular customer needs and not military strict requirements~https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manufa...t-%C3%89tienne

Finish looks dusty blue. I think it was submersed in a solution that dulled the finish? Most of the finish is gone. No straw remaining. Side cover not numbered. Hold open not numbered. One grip not numbered, other looks like 98?" with a "E" Workers mark.
Barrel lettering looks original. Not engraved. Thoughts? The more I look maybe refinished? Bob |

Bob,
Could you please post a critically sharp, properly exposed, extreme close-up of the barrel inscription? --Dwight |
OK Dwight. Ill see if I can get one tonight.
Bob |
Hi Bob,
It looks good so far pending the close scrutiny of the barrel inscription. However, I must tell you that this gun has been very poorly refinished and much of it's value has been reduced. Regards, Norm |
Thanks Norme. I thought the same thing. Almost looks like it was lightly parkerized? But could be just bad blueing as you say.

Thanks for the proofs, I meant the MANUFRANCE inscription.

Sorry Dwight. I'll try to get some better ones.

Seems a good one parkerised like the M943 , going on french colonies in Africa or else , I see some like this coming back from Algerian war

Hope this helps. Best I can do with a phone.

Nice , I'm jealous, impossible to find this variation in France , where I live !!

Do all correct examples have the number on the grip?? Bill |
As far as I know all correct examples have a number on the grip. Luc Guillou and Georges Machtelinckx state this categorically in "Le Luger: Un Pistolet de Legende".
