Heplp! - Krieghoff Production & Markings

CIAO! From Italy.

Tomorrow I am hopefully finalizing purchase of my second Luger (I hope with better luck then my first one!!).

Probably , I will be in a position to chose between a MAUSER and a KRIEGHOFF - both just pre WWII or early WWII.

Assuming that condition of the 2 pistols be the same , and that all parts are matching in both pistols, which of the two will be more valuable as a collectors item?

Also , can anybody give me any info on KFIEGHOFF start and end of production years, and typical markings on pistol?

Thanks to everybody!!!!:) :) :)

fanto, I am not being rude, but if you have to ask which is more valuable and rare between a krieghoff and a mauser, I suggest you get books first before buying.

Marco,

1. You might consider buying this book before considering an HK Luger purchase. Especially since HK Lugers are being made as forgeries out of other DWM Lugers.

To find this book for sale in Italia, you might search with this ISBN Number :

0-87833-314-2

2. In my opinion, I think an HK Luger is a better investment as only 13,000 or so HK Lugers were made and not all 13,000 survived the war. Compare that to hundreds of thousands of Lugers made by Mauser.

Thanks!

I fact I am now reading my first book on LUGERS, but I have found so far vey little info on KRIEGHOFF Lugers, especially no details on markings and start/end of production....

Yes , I am a novice to lugers - but I am learning...
.A few books should be arriving in the post in the next weeks!

Thanks to all of you!!

Marco

Marco,

The book by Gibson will give you many pages of serial numbers and dates of production.

It also has many chapters devoted in the book to markings one needs to look for in the many variations of the HK Luger made over the 10 years or so they were in production.

Your opening question is just too broad to give you a short answer...and the best thing is to buy the Gibson book.

While you wait for your book to arrive at your home, I would also suggest you take a few hours and read through all the discussion posting in this HK Luger section. Once you read and learn more, you might be able to ask more specific questions which the members with HK experience could try to answer for you.

My advice is to delay a purchase of an HK Luger for a few weeks...until you receive your book and can study more.

Of course, the problem one faces is that someone else may buy the HK before Marco gets his education!

Many thanks...In fact it is the Gibson book I ordered.
Unfortunately post is slow in Italy, in August.

In any case , I will post on the Forum photos of any Luger I will buy!
It is great to have friends worlwide sharing the hobby and so prompt at giving advice!!!

Cheers!

Marco

Yes, drbuster - that's exactly the point!

On tuesday I will go on a recon anyway to see the Lugers the guy has to offer - then I will play by ear, also acting upon the info I get rom the Forum, if the book does not arrive tomorrow!

I have just managed to sell the SS grips MAUSER for a hefty price, and I can now affordto buy something better!

Let's see....what happens - I will keep you posted!!

Ciao!

Ciao Marco,

try also to find an italian book "Un secolo di Luger" written by Vittorio Bobba and published by Editoriale Olimpia.

Is not detailed but give to the readers a very good recap of a lot of infos available on a "world" of lugers!!

If you like give me an email address and i can send you a scanned HK pages of this book.

Ciao

Alberto

Alberto is right. If you ask your questions here - I'm fairly certain someone with HK collecting experience can assist. There are several of those collectors on this Forum who have done their own research throughout the world. That includes more "research" than simply parroting a book or pulling pictures from others research/gallery.

My Best to you,

John D.
