Field strip
 

I bought a P-08 luger 41. I need to learn to field strip and clean. I have not fooled with it as I don't want to tear some thing up. Thanks for any help.

Skip step number 3, it isn't necessary to remove the grip to field strip a Luger. If you do remove the left grip, you must be very careful to push up slightly on the bottom of the grip from inside the frame to free it up then slide the grip down so you do not break off the small protrusion of the grip under the safety lever. This is very important as this is a very common break, so much so that the missing piece is called the "million dollar chip" since countless Lugers have been devalued somewhat because of this missing piece. Skip step number 4! Nobody can figure out what the heck that is supposed to do...it sure as shootin' has nothing to do with the safety catch. You can beat on the frame till the cows come home and nothing will happen except dents in your screwdriver.

Fully dismantling it is known as a 'detail strip' yes? I would certainly agree that it is not needed for quick maintenence and a check

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing the cleaning info......I just picked up my 1st Luger ( 1918 Erfurt) after waiting 4 1/2 months since I purchased it for the NJ permit.

Have spent the day today checking it out and cleaning it....But next time will strip it as noted

Am I the only idiot who has started reading this forum and asked myself "Why Did I Wait So Long Before I Bought My First Luger"??? Thanks to THOR I now have someplace to pour out my ignorance and not be looked down on!
