Questions on holster restoration

Fellows, especially Luger holster aficionados...

I have heard references to the "restoration" of luger holsters on this forum. Without giving away any trade secrets, what does restoration entail and how much improvement can be expected. I ask because I'm trying to assemble a "rig" centered around my 1937(or thereabouts) DWM police rework. I just found a police holster and I'm looking for a magazine of the correct type.

grantman,
Welcome.

Holster "restoration" could perhaps better be called "repair".
It often is simply re-stitching of loose or missing thread; this is not to belittle "re-stitching" as simple, it is in desription- but very difficult in time and execution- and is not none by machine-but by hand.
Parts can also be replaced- like pull up straps or missing buckles, and associated small pieces.

Put a WTB ad in the trader for the magazine you want/need.

Grantman,

The forum has a resident holster genie, username lugerholsterrepair. He has restored very many holsters for members, including myself, and does exemplary work. He would be the one to approach with any questions about repairs or restorations for your holsters.

Jerry has done several holster repairs for my brother and me. He has redone stitching, repaired a shrapnel "wound", and even replaced a broken belt loop. But he will be quick to tell you that cracks in the leather will always be cracks in the leather. They can't be repaired or hidden. He is a great and entertaining guy to talk to, and full knowledge. Good luck. Steve

DANG Eric! That's a beautiful set up! Not very many collectors have something like that.
