GB P08 1937 S/42 Beware
 

There is a whole list of things wrong with this one. Starting with the fact that there were no 1937 Lugers produced with an "o" suffix.

Interesting. Seems like it would be a lot of work to create an O block Luger? And if person has the talent to do that seems like they would check for a different suffix? Sold for over $3K! Please help us with the thing wrong with it. Thanks!

Ya know for sure the grips aren't right

Hallock on page 137 notes there is a likely possibility of "O" suffix 1937's.

The earliest reported 1937 S/42 as per Hallock and Van de Kant is 380p. Jan Still reports 4500p. This gun is around 10,000 before this. So no one has seen an "o" suffix 1937 before.
- The straw looks redone.
- The extractor should be blued color not bronze.
- The ejector is incorrectly in the white.
- There should be halos around the serial number on the bottom of the barrel. There are none.
- The "matching magazine" is a fabrication.
- The grips are not original.
- The 6 on the safety lever bar may be a restamp.
- White stuff in all the markings hiding the stamps.
As the seller states it is a scarce variation!

I agree with your observations, I noted the ejector, extractor and straw as well, and sometimes a gun is "too good". Hallock notes serial number 380p being the lowest "observed" pistol, and notes there may be a possiblity of "o" suffix pistols existing, but not reported. Although I wouldn't expect a 3 digit serial number. Just because we haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It's unfortunate collectors refuse to research guns before they spend such large amounts of money.

At what sn range did Mauser switch from rust blue to salt blue in the 1937?

So how does a fake Luger like this one come to be? Did someone take a 1936 or other chamber date gun and grind off the date and add the 1937? Why would anyone go to so much work? Finally the grip screws are redone as well.
