byf Luger has arrived

A byf 42-dated I bought arrived to my FFL Friday. It's in 95 percent or better condition with correct fxo marked plastic-bottomed mag. and a 1942-dated holster. Looking at the finish in sunlight, I'm certain it's original. Nice to have an original Luger in excellent condition, but my next one will probably be in the 60-75 percent condition range because of the price differences. I'm not sure what I'm gonna buy next (when I can afford it),an S/42, Artillery or double-dated. Or,I may see another variation that catches my eye. I like the Third Reich era Lugers because I'm a W.W. II history enthusiast.

Matt,

Congratulations on the "byf" 42! I have one of these and it is approx. 95% condition also. One thing I have noticed on mine is the quality of bluing is not as good as on the 1938 thru 1940 Lugers. Also the machining is not as good either. Mine was one of the last produced for the Army before Mauser stopped providing them to the German forces. I think it is in the "m" suffix block.

I also like the Third Reich Lugers the best and I need a "K" date to have at least one for each year of the Third Reich. One day I will find one that I can afford or I may have to save up to buy this one.

Gook Luck on your next purchase! To me, the hunt for the next pistol is great fun.

Frank,

I want an early Spreewerk P.38 pistol in the no letter suffix or an "a" suffix pistol. These early Spreewerk pistols have the same finish as the early Mauser P.38s and are nice. The hunt will be fun.

I'd buy 1, 2 :)

Marvin,

I also noticed the machining and finish is not as nice as the earlier pistols. Good luck on finding the "K" date. I'm leaning toward an S/42 made in 1936 or 37 as my next purchase.
