1911 Erfurt unit marked to...

Hi All,

I just saw a 1911 Erfurt that is unit marked as follows: "106.R.5.6." . The italics are mine, I did this to ensure the period after the 6 is clearly apart of the unit mark.

I am guessing something like:

1) 106th (Prussian) Regiment, 5th Battalion, 6th weapon
2) 106th (Prussian) Regiment, 5th Battalion, 6th company
3) None of the above.

Also, is there a significance to the trailing period after the 6?

It is 7. Saxon Infantry Regiment "King George" No. 106, 5. company, weapon No. 6

German Infantry regiments have had 3 battalions with 4 companies (250 men per company) with each battalion and mostly 1 MG Company.

Regards from Germany

Thanks Bluff and Klaus,

Klaus, please clarify. I think you are saying:

"106.R.5.6." = 106th Regiment, 5th company, 6th weapon.

and
- the 106th Regiment was Saxon (not Prussian)
- the 106th Regiment was also known as the "King George" Regiment

This is great information.

"106.R.5.6." = 106th Regiment, 5th company, 6th weapon is correct.

and it was Saxon. Saxon was one of 4 Kingdoms during der Imperial time.

"King George" was a honor name of this regiment.
