Double date finish question

I'm looking at a double-date Luger and am wondering if the finish is the original arsenal rework finish. The photos are kind of dark. The barrel looks okay but I am not sure about the rest of it. The finish appears too dull but that may just be from the quality of the pictures. It's on one of the well-known auction sites. I will post an auction number if that is allowed.

just post the direct link, that is not frowned upon on this forum. That said, a "double-date" (usualy a reichswehr 1920 property stamp and an actual date), is sometimes hard to tell if a "rework" that is official or is a reblue. But if you look at it, has age to it, all other things seems appropriate, then it probably is...

There would not be any reason to presume that a double date would be refinished. Additional clues, like a barrel replacement, might make it more likely. My bet is that more pistols have been refinished in the US than were ever done by the Weimar republic or the Third Reich.

Heinz, mostly agree, but if a police pistol and the magazine safety has been removed and rewelded back in, I would expect to be rearsenaled. But, I also think it is convienent to say it is a "rework" when it more likely is a 1963 reblue (or 2003 ;))

It may be original BUT why does the seller take such bad pictures? He is supposedly an experienced seller. Also there is some unusual numbering on the gripstrap, that you just can't quite make out in the photos.

383 ( I assume that's Mopar). If it has grip strap numbers and Ron Smith is not bidding, it is probably hinky.

I get the feeling it is a russian gun. look at the suffex area on front of the frame.
