Price High-Water Mark ???

I cannot remember; is the 1938 HK this rare ?

Or is there some pricing typo ???

tracyp 06-20-2006 11:42 PM

I'm sure the pricing is not a typo. I wouldn't rate it 98% and yes it's seems extremely high. Gibson says 50 were made.

Tracy is right on.. Mr Gibson estimated 50 were produced with the 1938 chamber date to fulfill the original contract. As of today - less than 1/2 that number exist according to the reported serial numbers.

I'd say the pricing isn't a typo at all - rather a reflection of the current market price of a very rare HK..!

Best to you,

Wow, absolutely incredible! I wonder what the price would be on an authentic and verified 1939 dated HK? Mike Krause says he has seen and handled two of them during his long tenure.

Now where else can one realize a 70% profit in one year? A "lucky" IPO? A quick turn around on a piece of property? I doubt it. Lugers and Colts are the way to go. Not only can one "oogle" at the thing but it grows more valuable as you watch it!

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for it to sell. In the Member Gallery, Tom says his has 92% of the original bluing. From the pics it looks better. Simpson's says the one they have for sale has 98%. I think I would prefer to have Tom's.

When I tried to access simpson's site, i got the following message:

CGI-limits reached, please try again later!

Anyone else get this message.

tracyp 06-22-2006 07:39 PM

It's now listed as on HOLD at Simpson's.

drbuster 06-22-2006 10:09 PM

Not only is this pricey HK on hold now at Simpsons, but most of the Navy Lugers have also just been put on hold as well. The big money is out chasing the stuff we won't see until the next generation.

Hi Tom,

Let me know when you get a 1939..

Now THAT is something I'd like to see. It must be one fine collection... :)

All,

The purchaser of the '38 contacted me. He is (by my standards) a younger collector who has closely focused and successfully obtained a super collection of Kriegs. I may try to convince him to bring his collection to Chattanooga.
