Condition a little on the rough side but yeah! Ida jumped all over it too! Will make a dandy shooter. Find a stock..that's the next thing you will want! Nice score...You don't show the chamber date but likely a 1917

All the numbers I see are matching, what am I missing? The left upper receiver with the 6/5 overstamp?

I don't see the year but I'm guessing 1917. A bit rough as Jerry says but certainly not bad and for $1,000 with the holster, tool and cleaning rod, you did better than "good" IMO. I assume the bore is decent. Like gunnertwo, I don't see any mismatched numbers except the magazine and that's common. Jerry, the first to reply to your post, can repair the holster and make it serviceable. His work is highly regarded as he knows his stuff. |
I agree with the others you did well for $1000 more than well and if the bore is decent you’ll have a fun shooter. Never apologize for too many pictures there is no such thing! My dilemma is even with a rough finish if all the parts are truly matching does it fall into the shooter category? Me personally I still would be a bit nervous about breaking a numbered part but this is an ongoing debate something I’m not trying to rehash. Enjoy your Arty and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your Artillery Luger.
If it's any consolation, I've seen serial number die overstamping before. I have one from Mauser in 1936. It's possible that a factory worker picked up the wrong die, stamped the number digit, realized the error and then overstamped the correct digit. That said, there is quite a bit of damage around the attached barrel serial number area, and the receiver sits proud of the frame, which sometimes indicates that the frame was manipulated in this area. |
I shot the Luger today. While it has a horrendous trigger pull, it is accurate.

As I suspected, it's a 1917. The Artillery Lugers are very accurate. Often the trigger pull on a Luger is long but not necessarily heavy. It's the length of pull that sometimes puts people off. I've shot Lugers that had excellent light triggers and others that are long and a bit heavy but once used to the pull, they are quite accurate.

You thought 'well thats an attractive piece of gear', I don't suppose buying just this one will hurt anything ya ?? Once home you noticed and thought about the incredible beauty of this machined masterpiece of functional art. You started reading and studying the important history surrounding this pistol and how the semi-automatics evolved from these few giants in weapons engineering Maxim, Borchardt, luger ... on and on and on. No one stops at one Luger, married or not .... So welcome to the club woosley1966, but more pictures next time OK ?? :D By the way ... An artillery Luger with a holster for a MERE 1K is an awesome deal in today's current market ... all these are signs that this was meant to be. Welcome to the forum brother. :bowdown: |
You Sir, are on to something, LOL. I have lunch this coming Monday with my friend Don Rousseau. Don said he will school me on Lugers. Although my Luger is not anything Don would purchase, he will tell me about it. I know Don to only collect the finest. Don has invited me to view his collection in the past and hope that Monday will be my lucky day. I can say, I will be Sgt. Schultz after Monday. I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing!!!!

I was lucky enough to purchase another artillery Luger through Don Rousseau. This was not Don’s Luger but someone close to him. The new acquisition is the Luger on the bottom.
