Identifying particular model
 

I came into possession of a Luger and am not sure of the model.
The top of the receiver reads "1920" with "S/42" on the toggle. Near the safety it reads "GESICHERT" and "1917" on the same side on the forward part of the receiver. Above this is "4271" with the number "19" stamped in several areas. Am I correct in assuming this is a Model 1920 Commercial?

Welcome to the forum! From your description you have what we call a "mixmaster", a gun assembled from parts from several different guns. The frame, with 1917 stamped on it, is from a 1917 Navy Luger, the toggle marked S/42 is from a Mauser made Luger dated between 1935 and 1939. You get the idea! Post some photos and perhaps we can identify some of the other parts.

I think you may have a parts gun with a 1917 navy frame. Weimar 1920 property stamp on the upper. Mauser toggle. Pictures would verify this is a parts gun.

It likely is a mixmaster, as stated above, but if it functions correctly, it will be a good shooter for you. Lugers are a lot of fun to shoot, and scary accurate if you do your part.
