Krieghoff Bakealite Grips
 

Are the Bakealite grips marked or stamped on the back side of a 1936 ?

First off welcome to his Forum of Luger enthusiasts.

KRIEGHOFF grips are not really of bakelite, they started to use that sort of brown plastic more or less at the same time as MAUSER did, as soon as they realized that wood was becoming scarce while plastic was more durable and less expensive.

They initially used two different sorts of brown grips: Fine checked and Coarse checked.
Fine checked ones were made by Hermann Ritzmann & Sohne with the HRS hallmark cast in each grip on the reverse side, and became predominant in the 1936 two digit pieces and apparently ]they were phased out prior to the 1937 production. [/B]

Thanks for the information !! In the process of buying my first and most likely only Luger. Seemed the Krieghoff was the one to have if you were only going to have one. Sergio -- a follow up question if you will. Based on your reply -- it is now my understanding that the fine checked grips were marked (HRS hallmark) and the coarse checked grips are not. Is this correct ?? Thanks !!

Yes as far as I know the Fine Checked grips made by Ritzmann have a some sort of mark on the reverse side while the so called Coarse Checked one do not.

Collecting Lugers is some sort of "desease"... some people have got the "Swiss fever" others have caught something else.
This to say that apart from money, it's only a matter of personal likings, some people for instance would prefer to collect P.08 Mod. "K", others Artillery Lugers, Navy Lugers, American Eagle Lugers or even the most expensive "Luger carbine".

Thanks Sergio for the information !! I have spent a right good bit of time roaming around this Fourm the past week or so and I can certainly sense the addictive quality of Lugers and the pursuit of information about them. I have to say I think I'm hooked !! The original idea was I was only going to buy one - that plan is probably only gonna last until the first one I buy arrives. As in the military -- disipline is very important !!

I agree with what you say.
This Forum is probably very different from other forums I'be been taking place in the last 20 years or so; this Forum is a bit special and after all how could it be otherwise as we're talking about the Luger, this really amazing gun whose genious design is like no other gun on the planet.

It would take a VERY disciplined person to own just one Luger. Don't look at me, I don't seem to possess that degree of discipline!! I tried to stop with just one many years ago, but to no avail. :o

Thank you for the insightful comments and helpful links to additional information. I have amended the "Disipline" section of my personal collecting "Rule Book" so as to not limit the number of Lugers I can own -- but only require that I exercise "Disipline" in making my final decision to purchase so as not to -- how do you say "Screw Up' !! Bottom Line -- One Luger just ain't gonna do it !!!
