Fake Navy Mag on Ebay
Here's a classic fake Navy magazine on Ebay. What makes me so sure? eBay item number:144932094505

Deep fake naval stamp?

NONE of the stamps are anywhere near close..The serial has a suffix! The whole thing is clownish and the seller is the clown ringmaster. NEVER buy anything from this guy.

My first glance and I thought the stamps were a big red flag and then saw the seller and recognized the name from this forum as one to stay away from.

The seller is a cancer to the collecting community.

The guy has 7735 transactions and a 99.7% positive rating. Looks to me like you detractors are the negative .3%. That's .3 of one percent, hardly a consensus. I've had two transactions with this guy over the last few years with no problems, but with a 99.7% favorable rating I wouldn't expect any either.
I do think it's fair to criticize the magazine, though. Jack |
If the seller sells boosted items and the buyers don't recognize the fraud- it's still fraud.

G2, I don't disagree with you. I agree the serial number and suffix bottom of the mag is a deliberate attempt to boost this mag. The number is offset a little high to make room for the suffix, which shouldn't even be there, but there is no reason to think the seller did it or had anything to do with it given his record. The seller has a very good name to protect so I would give him the benefit of the doubt and hope it is just something that slipped past him.
Before I would openly bad-mouth him I would contact him and get his side. Jack |
Guy sells faked items, and when I questioned him about it, he banned me from bidding on his items on Ebay. That tells me all I want to know. When you ban someone on any forum, selling site, etc. for asking questions, it's bogus.
|
Jack,
The seller has a long history of fraudulent items. That he may have a legitimate item from time to time makes no difference. He hurts the collecting community and new collectors by selling fakes. Several members here have given their advice. They will not do business with him. Ultimately we are trying to look out for your best interests and your wallet. I'm saying this with respect for your opinion. G2 |

I personally have never done business with this seller, as far as I know he is a scholar and a gentleman. However while the seller may be righteous, the magazine is certainly not. The C/M is inverted!

Roadster 02, glad you chimed in. Your firsthand experience is enough to change my opinion. I wouldn't give someone like that the time of day. That reflects poorly on eBay.

I actually bought a Luger item from him, and then when I realized it was not correct, I had to try to get reimbursed and it all just went south. Oh well, live and learn.
|
Tom,
If bought on eBay, use their return policy. Make a "stink" about it. G2 |
Thanks, but it happened awhile back. Just another lesson learned in the pursuit of Lugers, and collecting in general. Unfortunately, every collecting hobby has it's share of scammers.
|
This guy has been around for thirty plus years. Once was big in fake navy lugers. Sells enough legit stuff to look legit. Also sells boosted parts and magazines that only and expert can tell what's real and what's boosted. Made a lot of money off new and some experienced collectors. john
