S/42 1939 POLICE LUGER for review
6 Attachment(s)
Hello All. Sorry to post this twice but I did not put a proper heading on it. Its a 1939 S/42 Police Luger. I am asking what you think of it and an estimate for a fair price.
Thanks in advance, John |
The wood bottom magazine does not match. What about the other parts? Nice.

It falls in the correct serial range. Mine is 9796n with a matching mag.
As stated, the wood bottom mag does not coincide with the Mauser police. A better fit would be an un-numbered Haenel mag with an aluminum bottom. Scarce pistol nevertheless. cheers |
Fair price for whom? ;)
Pricing for lugers is highly variable, as is the actually selling price; depends on where, when, how, to whom, and by whom it is sold. That is a nice looking luger, highest "price" is likely off the table as it is a "police" modified luger; the non-original mag hurts also; but it is a scarce one for a collector of "police" lugers. Price range could be $1500 to $2500; and everyone who posts will have their own opinion! JMHO. In the 2018 "Blue" book, the price for a chamber dated S/42 in 98% condition is $2550, and "with Navy/Police" markings $4500- an estimate that is "nuts" IMO; but for sure a Navy would sell for more than a unmarked or Police pistol. One would deduct from these for the mag- but how much who knows? The "Book" would be great for selling, but a curse for a buyer. :) Again all just "opinion", and we all have one. |
Wow very nice condition and looks very close to the condition of mine. Kind of leaves me to believe many of these spent a good amount of time possibly in a desk drawer :)
Mine dose not have a matched mag either and a little earlier than yours in the same block. Showed it to a long time Luger collector in the Dallas area and he said it was a easy $3000+. he said if I had both matching mag it would be a $4500 piece. And that was a number of years ago. A very nice scare Luger to have in that condition. Go over it good and check to see it all numbers match. I think if I’m remembering correctly my grips match also. Steve, |
