Sight tool question
 

I'm considering buying a Swiss Luger sight adjustment. Would this type of sight adjuster work on the regular D.W.M and Mauser Lugers? Or would it only be good for the 1906 models? I apologize if this is a stupid question, I'm relatively new to this particular hobby.

Dunno, but I have found that the barrel bands on the various types differ by a few thousandths. What fits a DWM might not fit a Mauser.

Fred is correct. Not all sights are the same height and sight adjusters are made only one height. You must have the correct adjuster to match the sight to push it over.

All (with few exceptions) Swiss Lugers are 7.65mm and the front barrel band is smaller than a 9mm. So a sight tool made for a Swiss Luger will not work for 9mm DWM, Mauser, etc.

I have a concern about the sight tool shown. It has the Swiss cross on it, but the "pusher" is right down next to the barrel band opening. The sight base on a 7.65mm Luger is taller to make up for the difference in barrel diameter at the muzzle, so the pusher needs to be farther away from the opening (this is basically what Jerry is stating). I think very likely the tool is for a 9mm gun and the Swiss marking is bogus. I wouldn't pay a lot for this tool and/or I would want an unconditional return agreement in case it wouldn't work on either caliber.

That is exactly what I was thinking on the sights height. Thank you VERY much for the information posted.

Now the next question would be is there a modern sight pusher that can work with Lugers? And if so where the heck is it?! :confused:

Brass is used so that it doesn't mar the gun...I've heard of nylon punches, would those be acceptable? I'm a LITTLE uneasy using any metal punches on it :eek:.

I'm sure nylon would be OK. Just don't do steel to steel. Be sure and mark your starting place so you know how much you've moved it. I found on a 6" barrel, the width of the witness mark was 3 inches, at 15 yards, YMMV.

I also have one of these reproductions shown in the first image, although mine is unmarked. It fits both the VoPo 9mm barrel band and the DWM 9mm barrel band (4-inch) like a glove and I used it to adjust the sight on both.

With some fiddling (and a filler piece) it should work with a .30 luger barrel, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Since these fit the VoPo so well, I'm suspecting that these are possibly post war VoPo tools?

I suspect you are right. Too bad someone feels it is necessary to tart them up with a Swiss cross.

That is why the sight adjusting tools are handy..you can push over the sight just a small amount and control the movement. With a drift and a mallet the adjustmrent is a little less precise. Especially depending on how loose or tight your sight is..
A sight adjusting tool is a fine thing to have.
