Remove extractor?

Waiting for delivery of auction bought 1900 Swiss contract luger. It has unstrawed extractor. Just purchased original strawed ejector from the Lugerdoc. 1908 lugers have pin to hold extractor in place. How is orginal 1900 extractor removed and replaced. Don't want to screwup new or old extractor. Any info gladly accepted. Thank you, Hugh

The 1900 extractor is really just a spring. The rear of the extractor is a pin that fits into the breech block and is held in place by the spring tension on a lug on the lower side of the extractor. To remove the extractor, you have to use a tool, preferably something non-marring like a wood dowel shaped like a screwdriver on the end, and lift up on the forward end of the extractor (the part that grasps the cartridge) until the lug is free and you can slide the extractor forward to remove it. A risky process on an old and/or brittle extractor, but that is the way you do it.

Thank you Ron, I kind of thought that would be the way, but wanted verification.

Ron, this procedure is probably in the FAQ, but IMHO it would make a good 'sticky'.

BTW: The Nambu Type 14 extractor is removed the same way. ;)

I thought all you had to do to remove a nambu extractor was to shoot the gun! :D

Sorry... couldn't resist the opportunity! :)

I usually use a flat blade screw driver, placing it under the lip of extractor and pushing it up high enough for the stud on the bottom to clear the breech block and forward to remove. TH
