Kristmas Krieghoffs

I was not anticipating much as I went to my local gun show this weekend, but figured it was better than going to the mall. Much to my surprise, there arose such a clatter.... as I went to a table to find 3 Kreighoffs that matter! (sorry, but I was trying to be clever) They were all matching and correct- easily all three are 98-99%. All came from a local collector who had them for years. Unfortunately, he knew what they were worth, so I pledged top dollar for all three as I knew it would be a long time before I could find such guns again. An S code, a 1936, and a 1940.
For now I cannot give you pictures as it was all it could do to give him all my available money to hold the three. Hopefully will pay them off early next year. (I know Tom A. will be jealous once I can post the pictures.)

Looking forward to seeing the Photos Tom... do you have the particulars about serial numbers and such... John D. may be able to tell you something about the history of those pieces if you have more info while waiting to get photos...

Merry Christmas!

Whee, 3 Kriegs how fortunate are!
Cost much more than a new car!

Help, this attempt at a clever Christmas theme is contageous. Somebody stop me before the guys with the white coat show up!

Great find Tom. You must have been a very good boy this year.

Tom Whiteman 12-19-2005 01:24 PM

Hi Tom,

Congrats!

A question, bitte: Is your 1936 a "36" or "1936" chamber date?

Also, your 1936 is within 400 numbers of mine and your 1940 is likewise within 400 of mine.

Enjoy!

TomW,

Your 1936 is recorded in Gibson.

And a question, because all I know about Krieghoff comes from my copy of Gibson, isn't 8241 way high for an S-code gun?

Woah... *gasp*

{:^O

Guys, I am in total awe... And to think that I suffer anguish over a mismatched, santitized Bulgarian... I'm dumbfounded.

I think I'll go sit in the corner with a big steaming mug full of STFU.

Can't wait to see the pictures... :D

Tom Whiteman 12-19-2005 11:15 PM

Tom A: The 1936 has the full 1936 marking.
On the S code. I will double check the serial number as I too thought that seemed late for the range. Will get back to you to verify the number.

Navy 12-19-2005 11:43 PM

For the Gundude,

Steve,
A cup of stfu is often a wonderful tonic that leads to knowledge. I learned this several decades ago. Congrats on your recognition of the same. :-)

Kreigs are something of "tierra incognita" as little is documented outside of Randy Gibson's work, and it has errors. So, we are where Luger collectors were in the late '60s early '70's as far as Kreigies go. Much more research needs to be done. John D. has done some great research and has been of wonderful assistance to me in authentificating my piddling group of Kreigs.

For Tom Whiteman, We need to get together and do a side by side disassembly of some of these *sweet* guns

Tom W,
nice going. Hows about the mags? Do they match? My Christmas present to myself is a 1902 AE 'Fat Barrel' that I am still awaiting delivery of. So I understand your excitement.

The S code is indeed outside the range at 8241. (in line with a 1937) and the barrell is not numbered, which I believe is an earlier feature. (1936). So, that maybe disappointing. The other two seem right as rain.
Tom A. : I could bring to the next NAPCA conf. for your inspection?

The magazine is #8044 on this one and it has luftwaffe L2 proof.
Again, I will get pictures on these guns.

Ed,

Relax bud...just sit back and have an egg nog and relax...

Tom

Edward Tinker 12-20-2005 07:26 PM

I had to dump the egg-nog, it was fermenting ;)

thegundude 12-21-2005 11:29 AM

Eggnog is better when it's a little chewy (and well fermented)... :)
