How would you compare your guns to cars?
Luger people, please don't be insulted. I once had a 55 two passenger T-Bird (mine was old at the time). It looked reaaaaal neat and went places but cost a whole lot, held only two people with no luggage, and couldn't compare in performance to a late Corvette, Mustang, muscle car, etc. That's how I view the Luger. It's a masterpiece and work of art, but there are better guns for most purposes.
For instance, a generic 1911 (even a GI gun) is like an old pickup truck--crude, ugly, always reliable, and will get a real important job done. A genuine Colt SAA is flashy and showy but impractical like a prewar Caddy or Rolls limo. Your thoughts? |
Re: How would you compare your guns to cars?
Think of a Luger as the Mercedes SSK; sleek, over-engineered and pure sex...

I think of myself as a luger person but can't disagree with anything AGE says. Lugers look good in the movies but I would have to spend a month tweaking one to want to rely on it for personal safety. In a military situation, give me an MP5 or other light reliable arm.

I've got a couple of older street rods. Old cars and old guns really go together

Yes Siree!
Old cars & Old Lugers, Nice but expensive!

Re: Yes Siree!
I'll admit Lugers are easier to store than old cars. My car toy is now a '86 Lincoln Mark VII with 16,000 actual miles (much more comfy than a '55 Bird and goes like heck when you want to). The Mark VII needs a garage and lotsa insurance, the Luger needs a zipper case and drawer space.

Re: Yes Siree!
Lugers are cheaper to restore than old cars, let alone buy and store. My 1958 Triumph (hasn't run for 13 years, at least its in dry storage) is going begging because I seem to be buying Lugers these days. And, being a British car fan, I really take to heart the earlier comment about Lugers not leaking oil!

A Luger is like a Porsche. They look awesome, handle awesome, they are very well made, they both have that mythical German mystique that have made them legends and cost allot

A Luger is in the same class as...
A Jaguar XK120 and a Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. All three companies have more models than you can easily track, all three are tempremental as hell, but my God, any one of the three can change your life if you own one!

I like high maintenance
women, guns, and cars. When I had more space, I liked to restore old English sports cars, such as a 1952 MG-TD. Now I find that instinct has cropped up in my urge to restore old Lugers.

Hmmm I know about them...
"high maintenance" women! One of them lives with me!
