Congratulations on your first Luger - trust me when I say that you will get more of these contagious little things. I also have a 1911 DWM without the hold-open and with a regimental marking, serial # 32XX e.

That's pretty close for two guns that left the factory almost a hundred years ago - mine is 3297e.

My 1911 DWM Luger was brought to Flor�¸, Norway by an SOE agent some time during WW2. It seems that the Brits used whatever guns at hand to equip the armed forces. This one was probably picked up as war booty and taken back to the UK during or after WW1. Its unit marking B.8.R.5.13. - (Bayerisches 8 Infanterie-Regiment, Kompagnie 5, Waffe Nr.13) indicates that it saw service in a regiment that participated in the battle of Verdun in 1916. Corporal Adolf Hitler served with the same unit in said battle, so in my mind there is no doubt that this was his personal Luger ;D

Welcome to the Luger Forum, congratulations on your first Luger purchase and thanks very much for showing it to us.

The unit mark on your gun is that of a medical trooper of a Bavarian military support column. There have been several discussions of this mark, if you go to this link http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...light=bavarian you will find one here, althoug regrettably the pictures have expirerd.

I'm 2nd generation German, US citizen, the word "kraut" and other such labels only reflect the users ignorance. In my line of work I have been called far worse and just one has to ignore such things.

I am not quite sure what you are actually saying here. But if my "statement" (I would consider it an opinion rather than a statement) is incorrect, then I guess that all the references to the desperate handgun situation that I found in the SOE files at the National Archives in London must be incorrect as well.

Dear Mr Brain - please note that we are privileged to share this website with a number of native German posters as well as second and third generation US citizens of German ethnic origin. May I respectfully ask that you do discontinue the use of WW2 epithets in referring to them?

I couldn't agree more....

One other interesting note on the British arms shortage...There is an extensive artical written in the most recent NRA magazine on this very subject.

As far as folks having thin skins, I would say it goes both ways on this issue. These days, people are way too uptight and easily offended by politically incorrect words. If the word in question is so derogatory, then why did I see a sign in a German-American restaurant in Munster, Texas, that reads, "What do you call a grumpy German? A sour Kraut."
Perhaps the restaurant should be boycotted?
Carroll O'Connor used that term on the 70s sitcom "All in the Family," and it didn't seem to bother anyone back then. I doubt a TV show could get away with that today.

For some unknown reason people today feel they have a legal right not to be offended. I remember that we have a God given right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. I don't remember when not being offended was added to the Bill of Rights. Can one of our more learned members bring me up to speed?
