BUG proof

I have had the good fortune of owning a few 1906 American Eagle Lugers over the past several years, both 7.65mm and 9mm. It appears that proof marks on this model Luger varies from none, to a simple crown N and BUG proof. Is there a serial number range that either of the three possibilities fall into? In addition, are the BUG proofed '06 Lugers more desirable or worth more than the others? Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, did you look over the commercial listing that Dwight put together? It lists by serial number and proof markings as much as possible, which really gives you a feel when they did what markings.

The link Ed posted is dead. I really am working on a commercial database update, promise.

The no-proof guns are intermixed with c/BUG proofs until their reports peter out about sn 46672. The first report of a lazy c/N is sn 49074, and the last c/BUG report is sn 53514. Pistols are almost universally proofed once the lazy c/N appears.

These details are interesting and meaningful to people like me who really care about commercial Lugers. Realistically they have little to no bearing on desirability or value.

Ed:

I too could not access the hyperlink. When I tried, the message I received was "Invalid Thread Specified............please notify the administrator."

I am using a MAC and not a DOS based computer. Don't know if that plays into not being able to view this thread??

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Ron

Same here, can't get into the hyperlink.

This one works for me: http://forum.lugerforum.com/attachme...7&d=1314286635

About BUG vs. C/N, given a choice I prefer BUG, but condition/price ratio trump proofing.
