New Section....

Hi folks,

I think I'm just about ready to bring a new server on-line with some new codes/programs. But, if you would like, you can try a new Lugerforum site feature - the Luger Forum Photo Gallery. I have put in a universal username/password for right now, so you can try uploading and creating your own Photo Gallery. It is:

username: luger
password: forum

If you would like to try it out - here are some of the features....

- You can upload right from your browser - either individual pictures or a ZIP file which contains your photos. If you upload a ZIP file - the program will automatically unzip it and render the photos (it saves time when uploading);

- Once uploaded - you have complete control of your gallery - resize, add photo comments, add new photos, delete your photos, flip or rotate your uploaded photos, etc.;

- You can add a link in your messages to a URL which will take folks directly to your album;

- When you upload a photo - my server and program will *automatically* resize them for you..;

- You can create "sub-albums" - which is a photo album in your album;

- From a user perspective - it's pretty cool. They can view your photos as thumbnails; full page - or even a slideshow - where you control the effects; Here is a "slideshow" example: Slideshow....

- Folks can make comments about your photos right in the pages where they view your albums;

- Additionally - I'm working on modifying a Java Program that the core program uses - so you can add photos by dragging and dropping right from your desktop (Itâ??s part of the distribution Iâ??m using â?? but it doesnâ??t work 100% of the time yet, For example, it's not working well under Netscape 7.0 (earlier releases of NS/Mozilla are fine - as most Mac and Linux browsers that are Java VM enabled).

Anyway - have fun..!!! Please - please - please all I ask is that you keep your albums in good taste and try to keep the photos related to Lugers and enthusiasts.

Oh yea - the site can be found at:

Member Gallery - it's in the left hand menu....

Have a blast,

John D.

Me like! But it will not now take the new username and password that I created?!

Hi Wes...!
Glad you like it, but...

Ummm - the fine print in my original post means you can't create your own username and password - which is why I said it's a universal username/password, rather then someones private username/password

You bet, John. I created an album and am tickled with it. Then I went where no man has gone before and created my own login and password. Maybe later it will accept it.

John D. 09-08-2002 07:06 PM

Yep - your album looks great (even better - are the pics with that early Luger in it - SWEET Luger!! )...

Anyway - I'm working programming ad-hoc usernames/passwords for the Gallery. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime - feel free to try out some of the features of the Luger Gallery, OK??

Best to you,

John D.

Thor 09-08-2002 07:13 PM

John, where the "h" have your "b"?

wterrell 09-08-2002 07:27 PM

Don't bother him Thor. He's busy fixin' up the gallery site.

Where the 'h' have you 'b' Thor? Haven't read a post of yours in a day or two.

Oh - just lurking... And you?? Oh - and don't listen to Wes - he's making all this up. Like I'm fixin' the Gallery .. If it wasn't broken - I'd fix it - but since it's not broken, I'll leave it the way it is.. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" /> <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Seriously - I check into this site a few times a day - but most of my posts are "off-line" to help folks out.

Best to you,

John D.

Wonderful John and although I haven't played with it yet, the features you say, require lots of programming! Excellent work.

You lurker.

Hey Ed...!!!

One of the features I really like is the URL scraper. In other words, when you go to "upload" pics - put a URL into the upload box - and the program will go to that URL and pull in the photos - and make them part of an album....

Still working on the remote client - which should be set in a bit....

Have fun..!

Like this URL... It should create an Album:

http://www.p38forum.com/pete_hk/

Just add it to a new album - and let the program do the rest....

John, really great, today Club Photo deleted all my photos, the 90 day free trial was up, I switched to Nikon Net and uploaded everything but haven't figured out how to give others access yet. This is a great new feature for the Forum members, Thanks. Tell Jen Nath sends her best.

wterrell 09-08-2002 08:19 PM

John, are the cookies non-expiring?

John D. 09-08-2002 08:25 PM

BTW: I'm askin Jen who "Nath" is (from Herb's post ).. Herb - seems Jen has a tad of 'splaining to do.... Heh, heh, heh......

Edward Tinker 09-08-2002 08:32 PM

I'll misspell it but Nath = Natalie

Well - OK... As long as Jen has been communicating with "Natalie" rather then "Nath"...

Edward Tinker 09-08-2002 09:26 PM

Boy those arrrrre PRETTY. I have no idea whose they are?

Can you attribute to some one?

wterrell 09-08-2002 09:51 PM

Edward,

I believe that they belong to Edward Tinker. He always has a nice spread of iron.

conchojack 09-08-2002 11:01 PM

John, the system worked perfectly. This is much appreciated. How to I delete the instructions:[delete album] [move album] [rename album] [edit captions] [permissions] [view comments]
Without doing this anyone could delete your input.
Thanks,
conchojack

Edward Tinker 09-08-2002 11:11 PM

Wes, yes, I untitled it, sorry and good eye.

Conchojack, nice ones!

And I love the AE on the other posting too and the HK .

John D.

You have carried my gallery idea several steps further than even I was thinking about! What a great idea! A self service Owner's Corner!

I know you have some edges to smoothe out, but the concept is great.

You and I should talk this week about some suggestions for new changes if you will have time.

John D. 09-09-2002 09:15 PM

OK - the Gallery is set... Some of the coding differences from last evening's post...

- On the main Gallery Page page (select "Member Gallery from here: http://www.lugerforum.com/ , you will see a REGISTER link at the top of the page which allows you to "REGISTER" your own personal User Name and Password - so please don't use the "luger/forum" username/password for creating your new login to the Gallery.

- If you enter a valid e-mail address, folks will be able to e-mail questions to you (and your e-mail is protected from SPAM bots).

- When you are looking at pictures in the gallery â?? you can add comments to pictures that you see in other's galleries. etc, etc, etc........

This is a codeset I modified for this Forum, but Iâ??m using one of my primary sites at http://www.rennlist.com (and probably gives you some idea of some other features I can bring into this Forum/site in the future). To see what some folks have done with their photo galleries â?? go here : http://gallery.rennlist.com/ - there are dozens of albums with hundreds of visitors each day (if you see "blank" albums at the top of that page - it's folks who are in the middle of creating their albums...).

Have fun.

wterrell 09-09-2002 09:43 PM

John,

The rennlist stores is a nice feature. And the java is very cool. Or is that Joust?

Thanks Wes,

Yea - Rennlist is pretty cool - and has a lot of features. Right now, it sits on 13 servers running 3 various operating systems, 4 hubs, three gateways, two dedicated high-speed lines, firewalls/proxy, etc. Network utilization - approximately 98% per 24 hours (weekdays).

Registered e-mail addresses to the Rennlist e-mail discussion lists - 82,000 folks(+/-). 53 public/private discussion lists, 2031 original e-mails rec'd (24 hours), approximately 13,967,000 (yes â?? I said almost 14 MILLION) e-mails sent in 24 hours (weekday). Approximately 34,000 Digests sent in 24 hours.

Rennlist Classifieds - 26,988 unique visitors per day - average of 130 new original classifieds posted per day.

Web Discussion Forums - approximately 9,878 registered users. Average of ten lurkers per registered user - approximately 1,965,000 page hits per month (yes â?? almost 2 million) with approximately 492 original posts per day (Web Forums only).

Total site - approximately 232,000 total visitors per day, 127,000 unique visitors (IP).

And yea - for all that - I hope to make Rennlist my full time job in the near future - but in the meantime, it only pays it's own costs without Jen's and my salary. So, we have real jobs to pay for it all.. Figures

Ron Wood 09-09-2002 10:49 PM

Hey..this new feature is neat! I stumbled a couple of times but it works slick. Could become addictive. Thank you!

wterrell 09-09-2002 11:08 PM

John, do you provide bulk email services?

John D. 09-10-2002 07:21 AM
Originally posted by wes:
<strong>John, do you provide bulk email services?</strong><hr></blockquote>

Hi Wes (and Ron )

First - no to the question of Bulk e-mail services. All e-mail sent from the site are to folks who are subscribed to double opt-in e-mail discussion lists (about Porsche, Audi, BMW, etc. cars). Personally - I have no patience for bulk e-mail providers.

Also - Ron.. Thanks for the positive comments!!! Yes - it is pretty addicting and NICE GALLERY!!!!

Best to you,

John

Very slick piece of work old boy... well done!
That should certainly help the members who wait patiently for their pictures to be hosted.

Good on yer!

Dok

Herb 09-10-2002 08:22 PM

Hey Doc, good to see a comment from you. For John D. A couple of days ago I visited another forum that was similar to this one. It had a section called "TEST" where the forum members could test uploading pictures etc. I assume this was to prevent the embarassment of attempting to post to the actual forum topics and failing to do so and having every other member see the failed results. I thought that was pretty neat as I have see the failed results of this forum's members attempts and then they gave up and never tried again. Just some food for thought.

John Sabato 09-20-2002 10:40 AM

For those of you who tried the new Member Gallery created by John D. Let me tell you that the folks who wrote the software that he used have released a remote client that will allow you to communicate with albums that you have created and will allow you to upload new graphics to your albums by simply dragging and dropping the files like you do when copying them locally.

The client "gallery remote" works like a champ. I downloaded the large version 12 MB, but there is a small version 2.5 MB that will work if you already have a JAVA Virtual Machine (JVM) loaded on your system.

If you are not sure, it is recommended that you download the large version, but no harm done trying the smaller version first... if it doesn't work then download and install the big one.

Here is the URL for the download:
Gallery Remote Download Link

Good Luck... Let see more of them galleries!
