Tom A.....

Please read your private messages - you have your own photo upload site to try :D

Let us know how it works - or heck - just post some pics!!!

See response to PM; still no joy.

John D. 10-21-2003 01:55 PM

Got it..!!! Let's walk through it in PM - we'll get you squared away - promise...!

John D. 10-21-2003 06:15 PM

Hey Tom.....

THE ASP code won't work either under the AOL browser you are using (dammitt - well I tried...) - so my guess is it's the encoding of the datatype on the POST FORM..

However - if you are up to it - this is REALLY simple.....

Connect through AOL - and once you are on - MINIMIZE the AOL window (just right click on the top of the window - or use the Minimize button)....

Open Internet Exploder (sorry: Internet Explorer) and type: www.lugerforum.com - and from the left link, when it opens, try the upload..?? Guess is - it will probably work... If not...

Well - stuff your computer into a box - send it to me - and I'll fix it :D No charge...!! :)

Navy 10-21-2003 08:18 PM

Well John,
I did z'ackly that and got the same friggin' pissant message...

This makes no sense at all; certainly others use AOL, as crappy as it can be. Certainly others use the same Windows OS...maybe I am being discriminated for being a fat, middle aged white guy?? I smell lawsuit. ACLU?? Where are you??

Why the hell doesn't this work?

Seriously - I really don't get it? You don't have a firewall, right? You are using AOL 9.0 ? That's Cool... ASP and/or CGI doesn't work for you - hey - does the LugerForum Member Gallery work for you???

Go here:

http://gallery.rennlist.com/lugergallery/

Login as "tom" - password "tom" (I'll change that for you if you can upload, OK???)

I'm still believin' you should just send me your laptop for a day - no charge - I'll fix whatever it is - and send it back next day...

John Sabato 10-22-2003 10:37 AM

If I can ever get him back to his Virginia home base John D, I will be glad to get him 'hooked up' and sending photos... but he is NEVER here... School's open, but he plays hookey... just to make money... imagine that! Of course he CAN afford more Lugers than most of us :)

I'm sitting here in Norfolk wishing I was back in Alabama, class is really not much fun, Tom is in Huntsville, will swap locations and we both will be happy.

Well guys the solution may be upon us shortly. Due to my clumbsy attempt at answering the phone last night, I managed to knock a glass of very good bourbon onto my laptop thereby frying the motherboard. Dell is graciously sending me another one for a paltry $900 to repair the damage done. So will have access and very limited access from work only for next several days.
It truly sucks to be me on occasion.

Tom A

Roadkill 10-22-2003 12:50 PM

Is that a punishable offense? OCUI?

Tom, before you send that thing to Dell, click here

and here

John D. 10-22-2003 04:46 PM

Wait a minute - you wasted perfectly good bourbon on killing your Dell laptop - when simple tap water would have done the job???? I'm with RK - that is a criminal offense.... :)

BTW: I'll pay Dell an extra $25 to test the photo upload BEFORE they send your new laptop to you... :D <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

This ought to make you smile or cringe, depending on perspective...I ordered the motherboard from Del via New delhi (As in India) and when I asked about having a technician install it here, I was told that the install was very simple and I could do it myself.

I am going to stop by Sears on the way home from work and buy a ball peen hammer and some vice grips as I don't have any here in Huntsgaritaville.

I need MANLY tools to work on 'pooters.

John D. 10-22-2003 05:15 PM

YOU GONNA DO WHAT?????.........

Hell - be sure to drink copious amounts of bourbon before undertaking such a delicate task - everything will fit together just fine. In fact - the more you drink - the better the fit.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Oh.... If you see smoke when you first turn it on - don't worry - it's just the new computer chips "burning in". Only if you see flames - should you worry...

Navy 10-22-2003 05:40 PM

In fact - the more you drink - the better the fit..

That has been my experience with many things in life, love and economics

We can make a systems analyst out of Tom yet!

John D. 10-22-2003 07:01 PM

Actually - I think he should do IT Security.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Why??? 'Cause based on his own testing - nothing could possibly get through his computer system to ever be posted to the outside world... :D :D

(Just funnin' ya' Tom... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

After being in the computer industry for 25 years - you have NO IDEA how close to the truth those words are!!! :) Remember Digital Research's GEM? How about the Osborne 2 Computer (not the 1 - which I had)? How about the IBM's Ambra? Or even OS/2 "Warp"..!! LOL!!!!!!!

As a recovering Austin Healy owner, I can attest to the fact that the z'act same guy who designed the electrics in my Healys built my computer.

Tom A

Ron Wood 10-23-2003 11:24 AM

I haven't driven a lot of British cars, but I did have a 1970 MGB that was a hoot on the back roads and Autobahn in Germany. Didn't have electrical problems, but the exhaust system rusted out quickly. I couldn't understand that since it was made of gold...at least it seemed so, considering the replacement cost.

Heinz 10-23-2003 06:53 PM

I am reminded of a friend of mine with a Healy who says "Lighting by Lucas, Prince of Darkness"

Tom A, years ago we dipped printed circuits in 50/50 ethyl alcohol and water to clean the flux off. You Dell should have been fine when dried off. Unless the puff of grey smoke that IS the electronic spirit had departed.

Navy 10-23-2003 09:23 PM

All,

I am pleased to report that with the unbelievable assistance of Dell customer support, a colleague and I changed out the mother board in my Dell Latitude C640 in something less than an hour and a half.:-)

It is obviously working as I am using it now and I am, quite frankly, amazed.

Appears I also damaged the battery, so will replace that, but what the hey.

And it is the BEST SMELLING lap top in North America, thanks to Jefferson's Reserve. :-)

Edward Tinker 10-24-2003 03:02 PM

Tom, you shouldn't admit to that, or people will hear how I spilled a glass of Dr Pepper on my new (reconditioned) work laptop, a week after it was repaired... :p

Herb 10-24-2003 04:04 PM

Ed, don't tell me---Dr Pepper and Smirnoff???? Yuucckkk!

Edward Tinker 10-24-2003 05:26 PM

No, that was in high school and was strawberry soda and whiskey. That is why I can't drink whiskey to this day :D

Was just straight Dr. Pepper, was a monday morning for work...

John D. 10-24-2003 05:35 PM

You drank Dr. Pepper straight???!!!!

Eeeeewwwwww......... :( <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Heinz 10-24-2003 09:26 PM

Ed Is a Hard Man!

Roadkill 10-25-2003 07:56 AM

Ed, might want to remove the Dr. Pepper comment just in case your new employers might hear about it. Comments like that as best kept from the public domain. Tom, I'm back in Huntsville, got in late last night (hugged my ugly dog, sent my girlfriend some flowers and hollered through the door to my wife I was back), will be in the shop all day, coffee is on me.

rk

Edward Tinker 10-25-2003 11:45 AM

No RK, this is going to be in Colorado, if it was Alabama, they'd fire me for not mixing my drinks, espcially on a Monday morning :D
