Baby Artillery Photo Posted...
A Luger Forum member, Art Buchanan, that has been too busy of late to appear; has given me permission to post a jpeg in the Member's Gallery of his most recent Baby Artillery project...
What a beauty !!! He has even added his family crest and his name to the side of the gun... I have asked Art if he will take orders...will let you all know when I hear back from Art... I also reminded Art he needs to bless us more often with his presence on the Forum... Enjoy !!! Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |

I have seen pics of Art's other baby's a year or so ago and this one is really outstanding!
Great work sir!! Ed |
A real work of "ART" (pun intended of course) :D
Give Art our best wishes and tell him to visit when you talk to him Pete! I would love to know how that 'baby' shoots! |
Hey Pete, I would love to have the original picture emailed to me, I know it would be higher resolution. Please find out if that is okay! Be neat to see a closeup of the crest too!

Ted,
When you are on Art's photo in the Member's Gallery, just keep right-clicking with your 'arrow' pointer on the photo. You will increment up in photo size and quality with each click. The last photo that appears is 1625x940 pixels and is over 551kb size. The crest shows up really well, then... This is the same as the original photo Art e-mailed to me... Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
I got a big picture but it was not clear at all, I think it is my browser, but I saved it to my hard drive and it is no better there. Can you forward his email with the attached pic. My pics that I email to folks ALWAY look better than those on the stored on the forum areas.

Well, I guess the next thing is a Baby Carbine or Navy. I guess Martz has already done a Navy Baby, but that one was with a 2" barrel which would be too short IMO for a Navy BAby.
|
Done, Ted...enjoy...!
Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
Hey PETE! WOW! Much Much Better, I really like the look! This is one sweet Luger! Congrats ART!
|
All,
I comissioned Art to make a baby P-08 for my daughter. It was executed with great precision and style. I like Art as a friend and am willing to give a testamonial as to the quality of his craftsmanship. Like our own Jerry Burney, He is truly a living treasure. When guys like these are gone there is nothing and no one to fill the void. Order ship time on a good Luger leatherman or 'smith is about 30 years. Pay respect to these craftsmen who labor out of love, (cause no body gets rich in this game) as there ain't nobody waiting to do it when they are gone. My zwei pfennigs and a tip of the beret to such great craftsmen. Tom A. |
Got a nice reply from Art...
He charges around $ 1,000.00 to make up a Baby Arty; with the customer supplying the donor Artillery. So...pick up a shooter Arty in good working order for $ 1,200 and add $ 1,000; wait a few months and you have a Baby LP-08 for $ 2,200.00 or so... Another option is to use a donor 1920 comemrcial and add an artillery barrel and rear sight assembly...that is for sale from time to time, such as at WOL's...and on e-Bay... Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
Hello again Luger guys!! I haven't visited here in long time. A couple guys told me they say the picture of my Baby Artillery so thought I should take a look. Thank you for all the kind words----not sure I deserve them---but sure makes me feel good. The baby also has American Eagle on the chamber. I used an import frame and receiver that had been drilled and plate cut for sear safety--so I made and added a sear safety. You might not have noticed it in photo. Perhaps this is a Nazi Youth Corps Luger???!!! This is my #12 baby.(some time ago a guy told me that I am too old to make babies at 64) I have built 2 on which I added an original(cut down)grip safety. I have personally examined 2 of the known GL Babies. I saw and handled the Bulgarian pictured in Multi-National Pistol long before it was known to collectors. An acquaintance of mine had bought it at a local gun/flea market I was attending. He had bought it there evening before. He didn't know what it was and neither did I. I did note the GL and fact that frame had been cut and soldered together. He wanted to sell it but didn't know what to ask. Some months later I saw him and got the idea that he sold it for enough to trade for a new pickup truck. The next time I saw the Bulgarian it was pictured in the book. I also examined the GL baby that Bob Simpson had. Both babies had section removed from frame and soldered back together. 4" bls. were shortened buy sleeving the sight band back on the bl. Grips were cut across the center horizonally and dovetailed together. Grips were dark and splice did not show. One of the grips on Simpson's baby had separated just enough that it was partially visable in the checkering. I am no longer soliciting Luger work but still do a few custom things from time to time and expect to do a few more babies sometime. Actually I have a baby carbine in my mind. I have a repro rear sight and a frame to cut----maybe this winter? I will be pleased to email pictures of the Artillery and one with grip safety on request. They are actually made on scanner and will print out full size in color. You can even make them larger to look at in Adobe Deluxe. Again----thank you all for the kind words. Art

Post Script: Now I will spell check----should have said they SAW the picture and shortened BY sleeving. But you knew what I meant----Glad you enjoyed the picture and Thanks again for the praise. Art

Art,
Please send me copies of the photos to the official Lugerforum email address; lugerforum@yahoo.com Thanks! and great work! |
Ok John---will do!

Art, thanks... and you may not realize it but you can edit posts that you have already made instead of posting corrections in a subsequent post... just use the Pencil/Paper icon at the top of the post and you can correct any glitches that happened while your fingers were moving on the keyboard... :)
