What should I offer for this rig P08

I missed that the other 1940 was a mismatch. 93v98 easy miss for me. This one is all matching including mag and holster. Eagle L which I believe is for police.

Who are you making the offer to? A dealer? Granny next door? A good Friend? Is it currently for sale and what are THEY asking?

castile 08-10-2020 02:54 PM

Its a local estate where the old man passed away.

lugerholsterrepair 08-10-2020 03:34 PM

This rig could easily be seen as worth say, $3,500+. But the market is in flux. If the pistol type were in my collecting interest I would offer 3K . But honestly..it's hard to tell where the estate is coming from. Have they had the guns evaluated and priced? If not, how do they expect to sell them> Wait for offers & bids?

castile 08-10-2020 04:03 PM

No, its an estate sale and this is one of a couple of guns I was interested in.

lugerholsterrepair 08-10-2020 05:49 PM

Raphielle, OK an estate sale. What do they have it priced at at this estate sale?

tharpo 08-10-2020 07:53 PM

Looks like a very nice 1940 Police Banner with matching holster and magazine! I'm curious to know what markings are on the tool in the holster pouch?

castile 08-13-2020 10:23 AM

Right know they are asking 2500 OBO. I offered 1500 but was thinking of the 2500 and buy it.

MikeP 08-13-2020 12:25 PM

$1500 is pretty unrealistic for this piece.

Dwight Gruber 08-13-2020 02:19 PM

Do not hesitate to buy this for $2,500.

Listen to Dwight. He knows what he's talking about.

If they're willing to negotiate as indicated by the "OBO", I'd offer $2200 but be prepared to pay the full price.

castile 08-13-2020 03:18 PM

Thanks done.

Better hope some Luger guy doesn't come along and spot it.

castile 08-13-2020 07:29 PM

Its done.

Ron Wood 08-13-2020 08:15 PM

Good for you, you got a dandy at a super price! :)

gunbugs 08-14-2020 01:41 AM

That is a lovely Banner police rig. I have a soft spot for those.

castile 08-14-2020 09:36 AM

I paid the asking price and stopped the negation.

SteveM 08-16-2020 09:15 AM

FWIW, the rivet on the sear safety is suspect to me, it looks blue except for a tiny portion on the dome that is bright. All of the Banner Police and DWM Police I have in my collection all wear a rivet that is in the white. Maybe the pic is not telling the tale?

BTW, I'm no expert on these. After I got my first Banner Police I read everything there was to read in print and in the forums to learn as much about them as possible.

gunbugs 08-16-2020 02:30 PM

I think the rivet just has some "age" to it, plus the lighting might be throwing it off a bit.

Edward Tinker 08-16-2020 04:22 PM

I would buy a couple of luger books that cover different items (no idea what you collect) - although this might not be in your wheelhouse of knowledge.

Just the sear safety should have been a giveaway, in addition to the Eagle L and the police holster. Plus, since Its a commercial gun, the Banner Mauser gives it away :)
Does the police holster have a number? Most did not by that time frame.

So I need a bit of help again on this one. I made the offer of 2400 at the auction and someone out bid me. I thought it was a BIN but it was not. So I missed it. I got a call from the auction house. The high bidder was a dead beat buyer. So they are offering it to me for all in OTD with the auction house premium on it no bidding this time as a second chance offer and they are local so can pick it up direct like the PPK for 3400. I have done a bit of research and this is not an easy gun to find and not in this condition and I have rarely seen a matching holster. Scratch that I have never seen a matching holster with a Luger. But if its not worth it let me know before I commit. Thanks for any help guys.

Ron Wood 08-28-2020 07:49 PM

That is an exceptional gun and holster. If you can afford it, it is an OK deal. I think it is worth the price.
Ron

castile 08-28-2020 08:15 PM

Thanks Ron. I will head over tomorrow and pick it up.

The owner of the AH said he would have called the second highest bidder first but they were also not local and if he could finish the auction by going to me a local about 15 miles away that can cash and carry it would be better for him. So what they did is sell it to me for what the high bid was minus auction fees. So they make nothing on the sale but finalize the auction. I have the gun in hand and there was no tool in the rig but another surprise. A black bottom extra mag in the mag holder. They must have not seen it. I almost missed it but then spotted it as I was breaking the gun down to inspect. The gun is indeed all matching. The hold open bar, FP and other hidden parts are all matching. The wood grips are not numbered that I can find but have eagle 655 waffenampt on both.

Ron Wood 08-29-2020 03:41 PM

Jackpot! Great to hear. Not sure about the authenticity of the spare mag, not my area of collecting (it is post 1918 :)) but the rest of the rig is super.
Ron

lugerholsterrepair 08-29-2020 06:43 PM

The extra mag is a modern repro. Likely a MecGar. Good shooter mag but is alien to your fine rig by 75-80 years.
