Huricane Dorean, Pack Them Up!
I have 16 lugers. I put each in a cotton sock. Then each in a gallon zip top bag, Finally into a rubbermade box along with all holsters and boards. I then seal the crate with good old duct tape! This is going to be in pain in the butt! Port St. Lucie, Florida Eric

Hang in there Eric. You have been through tough times before. The most important thing is take good care of yourself and Debbie.

Thank You All. Our home in Port St Lucie was built 25 years ago when the building code including windows was rated for 100mph. We are staying with our daughter in a new construction rated at close to 175 mph and has hurricane shutters. Its now a cat 4, the highest. Our home will be destroyed, and roof with shingles will be gone. An example is hurricane David hitting Miami.as a cat 4. I sealed up my lugers and leather and boards. I dread returning in a few days. We may not have power for a month! God Bless!

I hope it is not as bad as it looks for you. Hopefully it will leave your roof alone! Best of luck. |
Tks, but its over 200lbs. They are safe as described above, tks https://weather.com/storms/hurricane

Pay attention to the NOAA/Hurricane center forecast - ONLY. And the "European model" if you can find it. The talking heads all have this labeled as TEOTWAWKI just like EVERY other thing. NOAA hasn't said a damn thing about it being a cat 4 that I know of - that all seems to be coming from the hysteria mongers.
At this time, we're boarding up, but not planning on an evac. We'll see where it actually goes before making that decision. We're in Merritt Island. |

then put them in smaller containers that Debbie can manage! I'd still take them with me. |

Took a turn to our folks in Georgia and the Carolinas~https://weather.com/storms/hurricane...ubsequent=true

Not here in Wilmington, North Carolina... But current tracks indicate it stays offshore. That means winds out of the East and North as it passes, and lots of water.
Most that have not experienced a hurricane don't understand that they blow a 120mph wall of water, not just air... |
FORCAST https://weather.com/storms/hurricane...tides-flooding gUSTS 185MPH

I hope you Eric and all the Florida members of our Forum come out ok with the storm.

You and all down on the South East coastal line take care...! Check back in when you are back, OK?

This storm is the biggest flop on record - from the Florida standpoint. Those poor souls in the Bahamas however have a different view. What doesn't help anything is the media - which I pointedly ignored. NOAA and NWS - and sites that derive from them like wunderground - ONLY.
|
Watching and praying for you Eric. IT continues to loose speed and looks like it is slowly turning north. MUCH flooding is probably the big affect for you guys.
|
Storms like this are extremely difficult to predict. Just to many factors. Better to ere on the side of caution. I personally feel the coverage has been excellent. Storm may still get bad for Georgia and the Carolina's. I only hope they also have a flop. Bill

Back in the day, when I had inside knowledge of a "newsworthy event", they'd ALWAYS get something wrong, usually something minor that didn't really matter. But I could count on the gist of the story being more-or-less accurate. Now? There's ALWAYS hype and spin - I don't trust the news media as far as I can throw them after listening to their "bull" about, again, situations that I had inside knowledge of. Yes, a storm like this is extremely unpredictable, and everyone needs to be ready for it. "I shaved my legs for nothing", but would rather be prepared than caught flat footed. Media and Politicians both contribute little to the situation, hearing about TEOTWAWKI every single time makes their gum flapping meaningless. I saw the same thing when I lived in California, and you DON'T want to get me started on the fiasco of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 - the politicians acted like Nazis and the media was in the wrong place worried about the wrong things - and it was much better in those days! Read the NWS/NOAA websites, all the info is there without the hysteria, hype, and spin. |

We were blessed. We went to our daughters' home which was up to code last year and not a problem! just returned to our home house. Our house built thirty years ago with no storm shutter or hurricane windows! It wasn't touched and even had power. I said a Prayer of Thanks! I'm going to leave my lugers packed tight till next month!!! Eric & Debby~

Well, it's coming my way toward Wilmington now... Hoping for another miss, but last year's storm made the area into an island...
I no longer bother watching the legacy media. All they are about is instilling fear. Thankfully there are good direct websites with factual information like: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/gra...nd120#contents |
