Age of members on the forum?
We had a previous Poll, but it was actually started so long ago that I’ve probably hit a new age bracket :-) so we are going to start a new one and we’ll see how many people can be serious and like it but, Many folks get all weird about their age.
NOTE: Nobody can see your choice unless you make a remark in the section below and state your age, the poll is hidden to all, even moderators ;) . |
Ed, you have two age groups overlaping in your poll.
I'll be 61 come June. --------------------- ((Ed notes - easier to write here then put in a new posting - changed it to 61 so I would not skew the posting too much )) |
Hello Ed, I'm 72 and have been shooting since I was 10 years old. My right hand has the beginnings of arhritus so I'm concerned about my future handgun shooting. 8-)
|
I'm 22 and started shooting when I was 6. Always have been fascinated by early autoloading pistols, particularly Lugers, and finally managed to get my hands on a good one in January. Signed up for here shortly afterwards and have been trying to soak up the wealth of knowledge every day since.

Live every moment to the fullest! Time goes by with the blink of an eye! We don't own our lugers but only have a momentary right of possession! "Ten years have gone behind you! No one told you when to run. You miss the starting gun!! Pink Floyd 1973! Eric

We are only mortal for a little while
Closer to the 61 end than the 51 end of the bracket.

It appears to that collectors don't have the ability to really get into this hobby until the age of 50. I wouldn't be surprised if the Colt and Winchester folks are not seeing the same demographics.

but I thought the same thing so far in the numbers :D |
I started around the age of 35. And as I got older and my circumstances changed I was able to do more in this field. This is not a cheep hobby to jump into. I see young folks express interest in this field but the ability isn't there yet. That's what dreams are made of.

I count myself extremely lucky to be in a situation where I was financially able to afford one (and that was a stretch!) at my age. Otherwise a thing I note in my collegiate classes is that even amongst history majors, there is a pervasive feeling that Lugers are an embodiment of evil due to their strong association with the 3rd Reich. Factor that in along with their relative cost and very few people my age are interested in trying to go out and get one. That said, they all do oogle and awe over mine when they see it or pictures of it.

Turning 77 in May, so it will be 59 years ago that I ordered my first luger mail order from Ye Olde Hunter. TH
|
71 This coming October... and OLD friends are the best kind! :D
|
I'm kind of close to Tom's story...I will hit 79 in July and I bought my first Luger 61 years ago. Still trying to defy gravity and Father Time.

:cheers:Well I guess I am one of the young bucks. I turned 43 in November
First Luger was when I was 16. |
I will be 82 next month. First luger 59 years ago. Bill

I am 26, lucky to have a good job to help me pay for this expensive hobby.
None of my friends seem to have the desire to get into this hobby. I don't understand all they money they waste on the plastic guns they want to pawn off in a year or two. |
I will turn 44 next August.
And thinking I started here 15 years ago! Good to see some younger members. The future of the historical gun collectiing worries me a bit. And thank you to all of you old timers for all the patience and knowledge shared in this (and other) forums. Douglas. |
I will be 78 this November. Started collecting stuff as a teenager and bought my first Luger in 1960.
God has been good to me and associating with ya'll on the Forum has been great. |
It Proves one thing, The time of luger collecting has little is not restricted to age or race~ Luger Beauty is timeless! When Herman visited we were so excited. Lugers are meant to be shared! Dick and his lovely wife earned a place in our hearts. Thank you who created a place for us to learn and brag a little! Its one thing to see a luger in a picture and to actually hold one. It fits like a glove and perfectaly balanced! The man was a gunius~Timeless never redundant!
|
At the age of eight I was given an Arisaka Jap rifle and a Type 14 Nambu. I traded them for a Luger when I was ten. I have never owned another Jap gun.
|
GOOD TRADE~ Do you still have the gun?
|
Will be 33 in December. My first Luger is a parts gun that I got in 2009. Didn't get to shoot one till a year or so when my brother, father, and I owned a Luger finally.
|
Must be nice! Happy Collecting~
|
Hi All,
I'm 62 and first shot Dad's 1917 DWM in 1966. We were shooting some WWI German surplus back then! Sieger |

I turned 83 in Jan. First gun was single shot 22 when I was 12. An uncle gave my dad a Luger and a 98K Mauser after WWll. Luger was stolen in 1979. Still have the 98K. Collected Lugers since I was 16.
|
God Bless!!! Do you have any regrets?
|
Douglas, I have always heard folks worry about younger collectors. Perhaps less, but like I said, since i was young, I have heard it. I think that there will always be folks interested in history and the iconic luger is shown in movies on so many TV and movies it is surprising. It has its place in the mindset of the world :)

Ed, It is a on-and-off discussion that always pops up in the forums. My major concern here is that I need companions to talk about this passion. Most of the youngsters prefers plastic guns or no gun at all. It is good to see there is still hope. In my part, I am doing my best to develop in my 8 years old son interest in History and old firearms. It is working so far: he just asked me to get him a US Infantry M36 pistol belt and related accountrements. And he just gave his first .22 LR shots at the family ranch. Slowly but surely. Douglas. |
39. Still own the 10/22 my father gave me when I was 14. First Luger a year ago.
|
66+. Inherited my father's shooter when he died back in '79 and kept it and a couple other pistols stashed in the garage for years. A few years back I became interested in them again and found this forum where folks were very helpful. I finally had Mike Krause look at it and declare it safe to shoot so I took it to the range where it worked just fine. My father always told me it had a weak spring and for that reason he'd never fired it. 'Too bad he never had it checked out.

I am a very young 76. Got my first Luger in 1960 at my hometown hardware store that had a nice used gun department. I lived in a college town where a lot of folks were studying under the new GI Bill and were selling off their surplus, bring-home guns and relics. My Luger was a really nice 41/42 Mauser. Wish I still had it.....
|
I'll be 64 in November,
soooooo for now I'm "only" 63... :) |
MeToo! You have more hair``Better gray than nay!!!!

I am 72. 73 in July. Funny thing about age; my dad passed from the scene when he was my age, 72. I was 46 or so when he died. He appeared to me to be a very old man then. Now I am that age and I truly feel like I did when I was 46ish. I have three sons and eight grandchildren. My oldest son is 51. People look at me and think I am my dad. Whats this world all about? When I meet my dad, I will post here and let everyone know what its all about. Oh and by the way, I got my first Luger in 1959; I was 14. Bought it from the gentleman who "found" it in an occupied building during the war. It is a mint 1910 unit marked and has a small "w" near the trigger guard.
