Keep or return 1917 holster

5 Attachment(s)
I bought this holster on gunbroker for $175 including shipping.
The seller did not disclose or photograph the damage to the toe or mag pouch area. I requested high res photos but they still did not show the damage. I also requested a photo of the mag pouch but he mananged to take one from a good angle.
The strap also looks to be a replacement and it has a few other minor issues.

For $175 would you keep or return this holster?
($155 if you count the $20 shipping loss)

Thanks,
-Miles

Hi Miles,
I think you should return it. It's a horrible looking holster, in addition to the issues you mention it's a crude fake! My advice, buy a $300.00 holster from a reputable seller.
Regards, Norm

I would return and, given the evidence to not disclose the damage, I would then give him negative feedback.

It will go back Monday.

Thanks guys!

I do not believe this is a fake. But to many issues to keep it. Bill

I am late to the party, but come with the same advice as the more experienced commenters above. Return it. That seller misrepresented that holster. You can do much better for your money, especially if you invest a little more.

gunbugs 11-04-2017 11:42 AM

About a week ago, I had to return a holster that I had bid on. Several undisclosed defects. I really don't mind returning things, it's just the cost of paying postage both ways that gets me. Basically 25 to 30 bucks for me to determine it's not what they said it is. Just the price of doing business I suppose.

cirelaw 11-04-2017 12:11 PM

Frankenholster!!

alanint 11-04-2017 12:21 PM

With any internet transaction, ask the seller very specific, closed end questions prior to purchase. The answers remain as a record supporting any return. I. E., "is there any damage or excessive wear on the item not clearly shown in the photographs?"
Never deal with anybody not offering an inspection period and a return policy.

Hi Bill,
Imperial holsters have 3 rows of stitches on their closure straps, not two.
Best regards, Norm

I think I’ll order this one.
It appears to be in MUCH better shape :D:D

wlyon 11-04-2017 01:42 PM

Norm
I agree on the three. Although I have had correct ww1 holsters with 2 lines. I believe this holster had the strap replaced. A loser anyway. Regards. Bill

I personally despise when folks return an item of mine. But then I try to show plenty of pictures and good description. I would rather they think its worse and be pleased then return something (doesn't mean I haven't returned items either ;) )

I guess I am confused by how crappy the pictures must have been to not see the damage? There were original pictures and then you asked for additional?

BTW, the price was more like I'd expect than a pristine item.

lugerholsterrepair 11-04-2017 04:34 PM

This holster has been monkeyed with in many ways..the fresh white stitching is new. I think Bill is correct..the closure strap is likely a replacement and the stitching, 3 line..has been modified. But as Norm says..a horrid condition. Very bad seller to try to pawn off this dog chew toy to an unsuspecting buyer. Unsavory to say the least. Like Norm indicates..there are very good holsters out there for not much more. I have a nice brown one in my sale box for $300 shipped I will be posting as soon as I can get around to it. Good luck.

Here are the photos he listed and the mag pouch photo I requested.
If I was selling this item I would document all of it for the buyer to evaluate. Not intentionally try to hide damages.

I see this tactic used all the time on gunbroker and I can’t understand why. I think the hassle of the return would be enough to keep the seller honest.

milesc2 11-04-2017 04:45 PM

After looking at these photos compared to the holster he sent I don’t think the last one is even the same holster! He said he would accept a refund so I’m only out 20 bucks and my time.

Sonofeugene 11-04-2017 06:43 PM

If you look closely, the pix of the outside of the holster (closed) show that the pix posted by the seller and what you received are the same. There are a number of clues that you can pick out between the two. And if you look closely, you can see the ragged tag at the bottom of the mag pouch in both.

However, the closeup of the mag pouch that the seller provided is not of the other pix. I suspect fraud, though it would be hard to prove.

So, some of the pix provided by the seller are of the holster you received, but the closeup of the mag pouch is a photo of another holster.

milesc2 11-04-2017 07:47 PM

I agree. Just happy he is taking it back.

Ben M. 11-04-2017 08:42 PM

other risk, you send holster back and he keeps holster and your money. then you can only leave back feedsback

Its Called Postal Fraud, Federal Offence!

milesc2 11-05-2017 12:22 AM

Just ordered the holster Jerry was referring to in his post.
Thanks Jerry!

Miles, Thanks..I think it is scheduled to go out tomorrow, priority mail. Thanks...
Jerry

The even black finish looks suspicious, but the white threads are hard to believe.
Most of the holsters are covered with maker marks, codes, and other markings.
Many holsters were made by at least 100 different companies and some in Poland by slave labor.
The designs and appearance vary a great deal, but this one doesn't look right to.
The missing ordinance codes make it suspicious to me, but certainly not worth more than $50.
And, it's not a good place to keep your luger, either.

milesc2 11-06-2017 12:50 PM

I don't store anything in leather. That was just for the photo.
Shipped it out this morning!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

The dark one looks much like a repro. Is that correct? Nice one from Jerry. Bill

cirelaw 11-08-2017 09:17 PM

Very Pretty! Does The Kreegy have its' Kreegy birthmark inside?

It is original as far as I can tell. Jerry just replaced the strap on it so I’m sure he could chime it?
Only thing suspect about it to me is how nice it is, but the Luger that came with it looks pretty nice too.

milesc2 11-08-2017 09:27 PM

Not sure what the “Birthmark” means. Both have the “BAXI” stamped inside but I’m not sure if that is a maker or arsenal mark. Could someone educate me on this?

lugerholsterrepair 11-08-2017 09:34 PM

Miles, Both good as gold!

Norme 11-08-2017 10:12 PM

Hi Miles,
Congratulations, you have two nice Imperial holsters. BAXI stands for Bekleidungs-Abteilung number 11, the clothing depot serving the 11th Army Corps, headquartered in Coblenz.
Regards, Norm

cirelaw 11-08-2017 10:38 PM

wlyon 11-09-2017 12:05 AM

Bill, I am reminded of the two very nice holsters I got from you over the past year. Love 'em.
