Whats the theory that in order to be correct all the numbers should add up to one magic number??
|
Fake drums made in Eastern-Europe have a serial number of which the individual numbers add up to 17.

My guess is that the trommel magazines were serial numbered in sequence of manufacture. I am always amazed how many of these magazines are numbered in the mid 700,000 range. One of my Bing Brothers trommel magazines is 745537. If there were close to 3/4 of a million made, why are these magazines so "rare."
Eric, Your last posted picture showed the MP18 with the snail drum magazines. I did not recognize what uniforms the soldiers are wearing. Perhaps these weapons and magazines were used up in the post WWI period. That's my 2 cents. |

I believe that the canned beverages are peach nectar, in Spanish. Perhaps the army officers are Spanish military prior to their civil war.

I'm not a uniform or insignia guy, but the 3-pointed insignia on the epaulet, the configuration of the hats, and the distinctive, non-ribbed pockets with extra-pointy flaps might be clues to their origin... |

Do you know what period these reproduction drums were manufactured in Eastern Europe, and any ideas on how many were produced? Richard |

Thank you for that information. I am hoping D&B will give me the serial numbers of the other drums in the 'P-Kasten' they have for sale. That should confirm, if the others are reproduction or not. You may have more numbers to add to your data. Is the one pictured above in your data already? Richard |
Just so you guys know, there are hundreds of drum serial numbers listed in
Ed Sayre's book "The Luger Snail Drum". They are listed by drum type, and on pages 114-118 with a notation of when and where observed. |

You can also search the image number in the lower left corner of the photo. It comes up about 5 or 6 down in the search results. |
Czech !
