Project: Pictures Request
Hello everyone. I have a request for everyone who is in possession of an Luger P08.
I would like an 8 photographs at 8 angles for the following parts. The angels are top, bottom, right, left, top 45deg right, top 45 deg left, bottom 45 degree right, bottom 45 degree left. The angels don't have to be an exact of course. Just eye ball it. It would make me thrice as happy if a video was taken in addition to it. A slow video examining all details and angels of the part. Parts: -The Chamber -The Hull (Can also be called, shell or pod.) -The Front Hinge -The Behind Joint -The Stripped Casing Than you very much. It means a lot to me if you guys are able to fill in this request. Sincerely, The Pirate King |
Googling images of Lugers will probably net you what you are looking for.
This is also a tall order in time and effort when no purpose for the exercise is forthcoming. |
Glen, since this is your first post on this forum, it might be helpful if you introduced yourself to the forum, and told a little about yourself, and what you intend to do with the photographs you have requested.
You may not realize that this forum has over 11,000 registered members world-wide, and if only 10 percent of them chose to answer you that would be 8800 photographs. Where in the world are you located? How old are you? Do you own a P.08, or more than one? are you a collector? or Shooter? or both... and what will you do with the photos? I doubt you will get much cooperation from the forum members on your project unless you do answer these questions. Your request would entail a lot of effort by each member. |
Please explain more - as a Moderator I can see your name, email and IP
None of them match up... IP says Germany - email shows a domain that does not exist Name is way different than email.... |
Unfortunately, blind requests such as these are often used by scammers that wish to use the images to sell a pistol they do not posess. Until we know much more, I would hesitate to assist.
BTW, the "Pirate King" moniker doesn't much help your case. Just sayin..... |
I understand all your concerns. Allow me to explain myself.
Alainit: I have searched the web, with no avail for what I'm looking for. In a sense, I want to see every nook, indent, etc of each individual part as they're somewhat complicatedly built. I'll be honest, I didn't even think of those possibilities of scammers. I unfortunately don't want to share all the information on the "project" itself, but Boy Scout's honer, it will not be anything that will negatively affect anyone. Pirate King.. I see what you mean. Again, I wasn't thinking. Edward: It's true, I'm not in the U.S for the time being. I'm currently staying a year abroad. My email is valid. The name is different because I've been taught never to share my real name online with all those dangerous old men lurking about. :) John: My online name is Glen Henson, I'm a young man with big goals. All of which are legal. I'm an enthusiast engineer, and I love playing with big machines as a hobby. I'm located in Germany, and I'm from the U.S.A. Merica! I'm between the ages of 18 and 25. I regrettably do not own a Luger P08 for the time being. I do plan on purchasing an artillery version in the far future. I'm not a collector, but I never would mind more guns. Shooting is a part of life I could never give up. I'm an competitive air rifle shooter, and in the for fun I shoot shotgun or long range. I did not expect for even 10% of the people to share photos, and I required people would stop once they realized I had over 1000+. Is there anything else you guys would like to know? As far as my project, Ive said all I will. It will not negatively impact anyone, but as an engineer enthusiast I'd like as much information as I can on the Luger, and looking at the parts i've requested will greatly help me. |
Check on this site. You can obtain a complete set of blueprints should that prove helpful to you.
Marc |
The full original blueprints for the P.08 are available in the For Sale forum as a 'sticky' post near the top of the For Sale page... Click Here: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=11286 The cost is $25.00 via paypal and the files are delivered by download, no longer by CD via mail. They will serve your purpose of knowing every nook and cranny of any part you are interested in. The files are in a zip file that is approximately 440MB in size.
If you want to purchase a copy of the blueprints, send me a private message. |
I thank you guys for finding the blueprints for me. It was nice of you to put your time into this.
However, I already have the original blueprints and I'm having a little trouble reading them. That's a reason I want the pictures, so I got a better idea of what I'm looking at. I'm probably spent a couple hours already watching disassemble videos, but they never show the parts well enough, etc. |
Dear Mr. King,
This is either the funniest or weirdest post I've seen in awhile. Where did you come up with this terminology? I don't have a clue what you are talking about: -The Chamber -The Hull (Can also be called, shell or pod.) -The Front Hinge -The Behind Joint -The Stripped Casing I gotta go - my behind joint is tired, my hull needs scraping, my front hinge is worn out, and don't even get me started on my casing - I think it's stripped. |
go to our frontpage - www.lugerforum.com and then go to the technical area and find the blow up part names.
So; 1. Start with knowing the correct terminology and we can help 2. We don't live in 'merica' ;) - at least i don't 3. I work as a IT Security professional, and not releasing your name is fine, but a first name is hard to believe it will be bad for you to release. That sounds like something that is said to teens on websites... 4. I find it very hard to believe you can't find pictures of every single part you are looking for, right here on the forum - a good place to look would be the 'album' section - lots of people show many exacting photos here on the forum, let alone the internet. Google showed me hundreds of photos - and I understand you have a 'project' and we have helped before, the frontpage is of a Russian who designed 3D and made the graphic for us. Another was writing a book and wanted to know terminology so that they did not sound like an idiot. So, we are willing to help, but imagine that most of the guys are 60+ years in age and sometimes they need a bit of encouragement to share and do a lot of work for what you are looking for.... BTW, I would guess that is what you want to do, a 3D or other animation of the luger. . . . |
I think there is a fly in the ointment.

I obviously agree with your posts, the requests seem a bit strange to me. Sergio |
Still way too sketchy and a bit presumptuous for me to add further.
|
If you are having trouble reading the blueprints, you may not have a clear set. Some folks have copied the blueprints sold on this site and reduced the resolution so the small numbers are hard or impossible to read. These blueprints are known for readability. If you don't understand what you are seeing, that is a different issue. Then you will require a bit more study of mechanical engineering and manufacturing drawings.
If you have specific questions about specific parts, ask them. But your original request is too general in nature and doesn't use the correct terminology for folks to assist you. Study the thousands of photos available on this site already... that may help you. If you are truly interested in knowing all about the mechanical issues with Luger pistols, then buy the e-book by Gerard Henrotin. His animation is on the home page of this website and there is a link to where you can buy his e-books. The one on the Luger Mechanicals is excellent for beginners and includes animations to show not only the parts but the working relationships between the parts. The e-books cost less than $10.00 each. Here is a link to the one recommended. http://www.hlebooks.com/ebook/eluger1.htm |
I'm guessing that photos, not plans, are the key here. Maybe for the production of a video game or similar.

If you are attempting to understand function of P.08, this will help. However, I think Doug is correct--age range and nature of request are telling. |
Hello everyone once again.
- As far as terms, I was using direct translations from German to English off the original blueprints. I understand there is room for mistake in that, and if your confused about a term, I can point out which part specifically. - Naturally, I do not mind if you do not live in America or American. - As far as my first name goes, I think that is a rather harsh thing to say. Honestly, it's all personal preference, and I've been taught to respect others opinions. -Considering finding the pictures on the forums. I did this for the sake of speed and getting exactly what I want. If I do not have luck here, the albums will be next. - I won't say your guess is completely wrong. I am working on my Solid Works skills. That is all I want to say on the matter. I do have my reasons. - Encouragement, I'm not sure I can offer any thing. I understand economics. "The butcher doesn't sell his meat for the benevolence of the customer, but for the benevolence of the butcher." I guess I can say, that when the "project" is finished. I will be sure to let you guys know what it is, and so on. In the mean time, all I can offer is a thank you. - You misunderstood the statement, John. I am not having trouble reading the blueprints from the blueprints quality stand point. The copy I have is bought and in good condition. However, my skills as a drafter are not that great, and I'm learning as I go. I am having trouble reading them as understanding what I'm looking at. - I could study the thousands of photos on the site, and I might just do that. As I mentioned before, this was simply a request of speed. As everyone knows, time is extremely precious. I do understand as well I'm asking for your time. This is a big request. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, just asking. - Age range was mentioned. 18-25. Nature of request, mentioned further above. The moderator wasn't too far off. -Nope. I have no interest in any product of a video game. ,Glen |
so, go to the part of this website and tell us the english names.
I can guess, but your usage is completely wrong. -The Chamber - THE INSIDE? THE EXTERIOR? -The Hull (Can also be called, shell or pod.) THE FRAME? THE CARTRIDGE ITSELF? -The Front Hinge - FOR THE TOGGLE? -The Behind Joint - FOR THE TOGGLE? -The Stripped Casing - NO IDEA You need to try hard, write in Deutsch exactly what you are looking for and then several members will see it and respond. |
Okay. I'll write the parts I'm looking for in German.
Die Kammer Die Hulse (The "u" is umloted" Das Hintergelenk Das Vordergelenk The Gun Frame without parts on it. |
Way too much work... :(

It would help if we understood what your working on? I just read through the entire post and am still unsure what the purpose of this is? You should know that lugers went through some changes over the years and that even though close to each other the various manufactures used different techniques and different machining. There is a very real possibility that your going to get confused! It sounds like your considering building parts or maybe complete guns. If that is the case just say so and you will get lots of help as long as it's legitimate and in no way compromises this country or it's efforts over seas. The learning curve for this particular gun is very steep--- there is considerable information that needs to be absorbed. I will say that most of this research has already be completed, so the need for pictures in this detail has everyone wondering what your up to? You can go to this web site and see most of what you have asked for-- the pictures are copy righted but you can look all you want and get some idea why we seem resistant to your request. http://www.phoenixinvestmentarms.com/main.htm Good luck to you! The thing I'm working on cannot be said. It is not yet under any sort of copyright, at the moment it's all trade secret. The most i'm willing to say, it has to do with a construction of the Luger. There are many Luger machines out there, I do understand that. Some parts will be changed. I appreciate your concern, however I do not think it will affect me that much. I'll be using these photos only as references to help me understand what I'm looking at on the blueprints. "Oh, that's a hole." "Oh, the there is a curve here that is in the center of the piece, etc". I'll be putting the blueprints and photos together. If the photo is of another model, etc, I will be able to check it with the blueprint and understand that it is not what I'm looking for. What I'm doing is completely legitimate. It is completely legal, etc. I'm looking forward to when I can say what it is as well, but that is for the future. I know what you mean. I love German engineering, they know how to put things together. It takes more time to understand what they were thinking (their mechanical language in a sense). I don't need mechanical research. I need references to what I'm having trouble with. Honestly, there isn't many negative things I can do with the pictures first of all. And all these thousands of photos I'm hearing about, I'm not finding what I'm looking for. I've found stuff close, but no cigar. Furthermore, how are those photos any different from the ones I'm requesting? A slightly different angel won't mean the end of the world? Thank you very much for your time and your help Vern. I will check this website out and hope for the best. Glen |

From everything I am hearing, you need to buy a real luger and conduct measurements

You won't provide a name, by your own admission your screen name of "Glen Henson" isn't even your real name; Your email is suspect (according to a well-respected author and IT security specialist); you won't tell us what you're wanting to do with the information you request; The information you seek is clearly provided in the blueprints (which you claim to have) and in a gazillion photos here on the forum and elsewhere on the net and yet you're seem to most insistent that we are the only source of the information you seek; You claim you're "from the U.S.A. Merica!" yet your diction and command of the English language says otherwise...my guess is that while you have a good command of the English language it is not your native tongue/you're not a native speaker; "Engineer enthusiast"? I'm completely lost on this one but again by your owbn admission you can't read blueprints ("oh, that's a hole"); "PirateKing"? Again, sounds pretty suspect. In short, you come here making specious claims while being evasive and then want to toss snarky comments about. It's not my house, but if it was, I'd suggest you try again: leave and come back in with a whole new attitude, or just leave. My .02 |

Got a feeling this thread is going to end up locked.
|
As long as there is no ill-mannered behavior, I am inclined to leave it open for the time being... If Flaming and unacceptable language rear their ugly head, I can promise you that I Won't LOCK it.... I will NUKE it.
|
A very strange thread......
|
Perhaps if Mr. Pirate King were to offer a written contract offering a percentage of the business/profits, someone might step up and put in the time and effort?
|
I don't need measurements. These pictures are for reference.

You misread or I misunderstood. My email is not suspect.. My online name is different, which is completely different. The name is personal preference. Everyone has different preferences. Personally, everyone already knows where I'm located in the world, so the name is a step to far for me personally. You are more than welcome to post your name, I have no quarrel with that. I have given you an idea of what I'm going to be using with the photos. The project itself is trade secret, but the photos will be used only as references. I can use the other photos as references as well, but I need the right tool for the right job. You can't use a rock to hammer that well, it will work, but not so great. Claim to have? This is actually starting to get on my nerves. I'm having trouble seeing what you're gaining by putting in stuff like that besides calling me outright a liar. As I mentioned before. This is to save time, and I'd rather have a hammer to hammer nails than a rock. Right photos are better than ehh photos. The blueprints don't happen to have photos at different angels with the parts finished. They don't make great references. They are the plans. You are not the only help I seek. I am looking through the albums, and other sites that have been posted on this forum. Okay. Another, "I claim". Your guess is wrong. I am American, and this is my native tongue. It happens to be a little choppy because I haven't spoken it that much for about half a year now. As said by the credited IT, I am in Germany for the time being. Stated before, I'm having trouble reading the blueprints. I have done other engineering projects in the past, and enjoyed them. Luger is different from what I've done before. However, you're right. I can't be an engineer enthusiast "a person who likes engineering" if I'm not the best in the world at it. Concerning the comments. I like fighting fire with fire, might not be the most mature way of handling it, and that's why I try not to to begin. However, this post of yours has me rather upset. I do not like it very much when people question my personal choices, call me outright a liar, and say I can't even enjoy what I like because I'm not that good at it. |

You might consider that using photos for profit could be a copyright infringement.
sorry we are upsetting you - and I thought it would go down this path because gun collectors are naturally afraid of theives and being outed in public, just like you are. you were vague and still are so naturally folks think "Why should I help" when he's being so standoffish :) Just look at it from our point of view. And the only reason I outed you as being in europe was because we have had some trolls and I was not sure if you were who you say you were or using some IP hiding site. We have European members, but you'll notice none of them have jumped up and said, hey, come on over to my house and take as many pictures as you want. That should be telling in the privacy and security issues we are talking about right now. so, quit getting your back up, as we are reacting just like you, being a bit paranoid, just like you :) Have a chart that shows the parts you want some different angles on and then we know what you are looking for. OR, get some pictures and mark where you want more precise pictures. Give and take - its okay to be grumpy and snippy when you're getting jumped on. We are doing it to you and I apoligize, remember, we are a bunch of american collectors, and you are asking for precise things of OURS for an unknown use. You could be some anti gun guy whose going to use them in an Ad campaign of the evil uses of guns (lugers have a rep). See how we think :D |
Herr Pirate King..It has been suggested before on this thread that you simply buy a Luger. All of your problems would then be solved. You are in Germany and there are Luger's there.
Doubt and uncertainty creates suspicion and will be unlikey to get someone here to go to work...for a project no one knows about. But you. If a project is explained I have seen Member's here jump all over it and offer to help in any way possible. Since you cannot or will not tell what you are up to..trade secret? This is pretty simply not much of an incentive to make collectors work for free. Anyway that's my take on it. I wish you the best of luck in your secret endeavor. |
Here's a suggestion, based on my understanding that you simply need help in visualizing certain aspects of the pistol. Information and knowledge are bought and sold all the time, so what you seek can be purchased. Go to a local to you legal seller who has an example, and strike a deal. With such an approach, you need only convince a couple of people to cooperate with you, and you may be able to compensate them in some other way than cash up front.
If you're trying to understand more about the engineering aspects of the gun, I'll again plug G. Henrotin's e-book, suggested in a post above. Not to have acquired access to this publication by now would appear to conflict with your stated purpose. Even if it serves only to educate you to refer to parts in a coherent way, the $7.99 is more than a fair price. I've witnessed some very good suggestions for you in this thread, and we're all waiting to see what you will come up with next. |
Mechanic. :grr:
