Hello first post here may i ask opinions on the finish on this weapon?

if you'd like folks opinions on the finish, I think we need a glob of photos :) right now it looks good, but some close ups of right, left, markings, full right, left and top...

is it yours or wanting to buy?

Edges look nice and sharp; markings look good. Finish looks original, no evidence of buffing [yay!]. Doesn't seem to be a lot of pitting. Looks good from my front porch. :)

If the rest of the photos look as good as you have posted so far, you have a winner.

Glenn, take your new pictures in natural shaded light outdoors. Use a camera with the closeup setting and use a tripod. The self timer can help eliminate camera shake.

Flash washes out the finish and you can't judge the finish from flash photographs.

Is the alloy bottom mag a matching number?

Think so. What does that number mean?

Your luger would have had two extruded mags numbered to match, the 2nd with a ' + ' to denote the spare.
If you have at least one matched mag it adds notably to the value.

Bredan, i now understand.
Unfortunately, one is A 4175t - the parent somewhere on Russian front and the other appears to be aftermarket with a black plastic bottom. Cant have it all a suppose. The weapon appears i great shape.

The other fxo mag is a genuine black bottomed extruded mag issued around 1941 - it's valuable & well suited to your luger in the absence of the numbered version. Top condition too - well done.

I also initially thought that these mag bodies were "extruded"--the result of their material's being pushed through a die to create a continuous tube with proper cross-section. I think it was John Sabato who corrected this info for us. His description of a forged general form--created by pushing/hammering on tubing stock (can be done either hot or cold)-- which was then machined to achieve the properly relieved areas on the exterior, is probably more accurate description of how they were manufactured. (Extruded aluminum requires way less mechanical energy invested in the process.)

So, now, I kind of wince every time I see "extruded" used to describe these fxo mags--kind of like when seeing "clip" when "magazine" is the real term intended!

Hi, Your luger appears to be in original finish, and in excellent condition.

Both magazines are also original to the period and in excellent appearing condition.

All would be considered collectible if the numbered parts of the Luger are all matching.

The plastic based FXO milled magazine would also be considered matching to the gun, which is why they often sell at a premium over the numbered aluminum based magazines.
