Most people on the Lugerforum at one time...

At the bottom of the forum webpage there is a section which identifies those members who are actively on the site. Above that is the statement:

"Most users ever online was 781, 06-14-2004 at 01:09 PM."
I am curious if anyone remembers what was happening on that date that would cause that large a number of members to simultaneously be on the forum at one time? Could it be a glitch? Or is it a valid number and was something really interesting happening to cause it?

Anyone know?

Thanks, -John

Well, (ahem)....it was my Birthday!!

:roflmao:

kzullick 08-22-2013 03:37 PM

Mine too!

NoncomRetired 08-22-2013 03:45 PM

I was living in Ireland then and on that day, it was no different than any other day, I was probably having a pint of Guinness with some beautiful irish colleen.

John Sabato 08-22-2013 04:17 PM

It is also Flag Day. But I don't think that would cause over 700 of us to jump on line, eh? :D

Now that's a real coincidence Ed, I have that same dream from time to time too. ;-)

Mine wasn't a dream Lon, I was actually there, with which colleen at that moment, I'm not sure though but since joining this forum, I don't have the need for colleens anymore, orgasms come with each and every Luger purchase and the fact of my age.

Thinking about John's question, maybe a Luger forum flash mob tweet went out to try for a forum record. I've seen that happen before.

Norme 08-22-2013 05:39 PM

The real question, John, is not why there were so many users on this forum back in 2004, but why so few now? As I write this there are 16 active users on this forum, and over 350 on Jan Still's Gunboards forum.
Regards, Norm

I know the feeling Ed, on those rare days when I have a new Luger coming I sit by the window wondering where the heck that UPS, FedEx, or Postal Carrier is, and that starts the day after I send my money. :)

John is there any way to find out what topics were discussed on that day. It would lend a special perspective! Possibly a day before a major gunshow?? Ps Thank You John for your work, devotion and joy you allow each of us every day!! ~ Eric

The Supreme Court of the United States overturns a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling (Newdow v. United States Congress) that would have removed the phrase under God from the Pledge of Allegiance

I think President Regan's funeral was on June 11, 2004

So maybe a combination of things that cause people to gather is the answer. Humans are pretty resilient creatures, but almost all are effected by a series of emotional events.

Let me say that I often go on thins site, but I admit that I'd love to go on Jan Still's too, but I'm sorrry to say that so far I've not even managed to receive their registration confirmation on my email; maybe they already have too many subscribers. :-(

I think they are doing manual registrations now, the auto bots and spam was getting to be a very big issue.
How you present yourself during your registration is being looked at very carefully now. Give them time to respond!

Relax & Enjoy this site in the meantime!

What was the second most active day? Do we know what day was most active on Jan's site?

I don't know if this has a bearing on the question or not but, I used Jan's site and this site for six/seven months, just doing research on Lugers. I had a rather large collection of axis pistols at that time but no Luger. I found on Jan's site, photo of lugers posted could not be viewed without signing in, here not, so I joined Jan's site and then I went ahead and joined this site also. Since joining Jan's site, I still go there but can't sign in because either I forgot my password and sign-in aristocratic name or I haven't been accepted, senior moment, so I ended up posting here. I haven't a clue which forum is the senior, they are both great forums on the subject of Lugers. Since there are more active members on Jan's site, answers and inquirers would, I would think, be more abundant. I appreciate all the fine help I've received here and the friends I've met, even ex-members of the 173rd AB.............

I stay here most of the time for similar reasons. This site is simply better laid out. It is easier to navigate and I like the graphics more.

cirelaw 08-23-2013 12:11 PM

I most totally agree!

Well, this site could use a 'puking' smiley. Love to throw up a 'puke' now and then. A good puke says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I'd even consider a donation for a 'puking' smiley.

Well, I guess I will have to admit the 82nd and 173rd Airborne are pretty good outfits but from my perspective the 101st Screaming Eagles just can't be beat.

Like Big Brother ED!!!!

CAP Black 08-24-2013 08:56 AM

It appears to me that the other site has room for discussions and information on weapons other than Lugers. The categories are quite different and perhaps more persons from around the globe participate. More of an international flavor. Also, the ads contained might make some difference; of that i don't really understand why it would make much of a difference.
The non-P08 sections must weigh heavy on the difference.
Any similar observations by others??
Thanks
Jack

Eric, I don't think anything was discussed. Out of the ordinary, I mean. I'm guessing there was either a changeover from one forum software to another, or a big upgrade that had the max "numbers of members online" showing ALL members by default. Or something like that.

John D. was upgrading/adding forum software/hardware {probably both] at that time. ;)
